Costs negotiator / draftsperson - Manchester - The Costs team of this leading top 100 law firm is looking to recruit a costs lawyer ideally with experience of handling costs matters arising out of catastrophic injury / large loss matters and / or clinical negligence. The successful candidate's case load will consist of a mix of Personal Injury, Court of Protection, Commercial Litigation costs-related matters so other types of costs experience will be considered, but exposure to complex injury costs work would be beneficial.

• Reports to: Head of Costs
• Previous Experience: Experience of drafting budgets, schedules of costs and bills. Ideally experience of complex costs work would be useful including multi track work. Candidates must also demonstrate sharp negotiation skills. Advocacy experience would also be helpful, but is not crucial.

Costs lawyer - more about the opportunity

The opportunity is for a costs lawyer to focus more on catastrophic injury / large loss matters. That said, the team does not operate in silos and there would be an opportunity to gain access into other areas of costs work. In particular, they are looking for a candidate with the following experience:

• Proven experience handling complex technical costs files. Catastrophic injury cost experience is not a pre-requisite, but would certainly be an advantage;
• Experience of other areas of costs such as Court of Protection and Commercial Litigation would also be valuable;
• Strong drafting experience in relation to Bills of Costs;
• Experience drafting Replies and / or Points of Dispute;
• Costs Budgets;
• Strong negotiation skills;
• Drafting advices.

The costs team

This is an established in-house costs team of a leading law firm. The team provides both corporate and commercial business services as well as personal legal services such as Private Client, Family and Matrimonial and Personal Injury.

The costs team is predominantly based in Manchester and provides costs expertise to all litigious practice areas of the firm. This includes commercial litigation and claimant personal injury which includes clinical negligence arising from serious medical malpractice as well as catastrophic injuries arising from RTAs and EL/PL matters. The costs team also handles matters arising out of the firms highly-regarded Court of Protection team.
