Each year, we offer training contracts to around 50 Law and non-law graduates. The training contract consists of four six-month 'seats', during which time trainees move between different practice areas and gain a rounded understanding of international law. For their second year, they have the chance to apply for an international or client secondment, broadening their outlook further and sharpening their commercial edge - highlighting what it means to be a real Global Game-changer.
What we look for:
As a firm, we tackle some of the most complex legal and commercial issues our clients face. So we look to recruit smart, collaborative and determined individuals from all kinds of backgrounds and with all kinds of experience. A strong academic record is important: we expect you to show a track record of attainment with excellent academic results from GCSE (or equivalent) onwards. You should have achieved a good 2:1 or above (or equivalent) in your degree. You will have passed the LPC. Previous experience in an international legal environment is preferable, as is a clear orientation towards commercial law and the work that Hogan Lovells undertakes. An international and commercial outlook is essential as well as a clear understanding of the business and legal word.
Personal qualities are just as important. You need to be able to show evidence of working in teams, directly engaging with clients and building strong relationships. You should be able to demonstrate a real understanding of client needs and a wider commercial awareness. You should have a confident, professional manner and be able to demonstrate professional and legal skills to a high level. You will need to demonstrate an ability and desire for proactivity and lateral thinking, be capable of close attention to detail, have a highly organised and mature approach and have excellent research and communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas to others in a logical manner. You will show a strong commitment both to the firm and to the profession as well as a drive and resilience to succeed and achieve the best possible results.
