ax Manager  ATT / CTA qualified  (12 month FTC)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Tax Manager CTA and/or ATT qualified to join our busy Exeter team. The Tax Manager will be responsible for supporting and leading the team in the provision of personal tax compliance for clients.

Main Duties:

  •Responsible for the annual compliance cycle on a portfolio of high net worth UK resident and non-UK resident individuals, our internal partner group, trusts and estates. 

 •Preparation of annual self-assessment tax returns, calculation of tax liabilities, dealing with all associated correspondence and oversee the submission of tax returns to HMRC.

 •Responsible for the tax compliance required to support our Probate team, including the preparation of all necessary tax returns and computations for the period to the date of death and periods of administration.

 •Ensure the confidentiality and security of all firm and client documentation and/or information.

 •Ensure client and matter records are made and maintained in line with the firm's procedures.

 •Liaise directly with clients to ensure they remain up-to-date on any changes in tax legislation and the on-going status of their tax returns.

 •Maintain regular contact with the client and keep them informed at all times.

 •Deal promptly with all client enquiries and correspondence.

 •Adhere to the Solicitor's Regulation Authority (SRA) Client Care directive and ensure the client care documentation is issued at the relevant time.

 •Ensure clients are aware of all legal services across the firm.

 •Support the team leader in marketing and business development activities (e.g. researching and writing articles and presentations)

 •Take an active role in helping to grow the tax compliance portfolio and revenue generated by the team.

 •Develop, support and train junior and professional support staff effectively, encouraging them to produce high quality work at all times.

 •Comply with the relevant training requirements of your professional body.

 •Understand the obligations relating to client accounts and ensure that the

 •preparation and service of bills complies with Solicitors Accounts Rules.

 •Maintain time recording on client matters on a daily basis in accordance with the firm's procedures.

 Experience Required


  •CTA and/or ATT qualified.

 •Experience in preparation of tax computations and returns for individuals, partnerships and trusts.

 •Good understanding of tax regulations relevant to private clients

 •Experience in training, developing and reviewing the work of junior / trainee staff

 •Able to work independently and demonstrate initiative in delivering an excellent service to clients

 •Experience of electronic tax packages (CCH preferable)

 •Proficient in Microsoft Office 2010, specifically Excel, Word and Outlook.


  •Familiarity with probate tax compliance.

 •Experience of international tax issues e.g. residence and domicile.
