Burness Paull is looking for a Solicitor - Senior Solicitor (NQ - 3 years PQE) to join the Public Law and Regulatory team in either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

The Public Law and Regulatory team (a newly established division headed by Edinburgh-based partner, Hazel Moffat) as part of an ambitious strategy to develop and grow the firm’s public law practice. The successful candidate can be based in either our Edinburgh or Glasgow office and will work alongside our Glasgow-based partner, Graeme Palmer, Hazel, and Edinburgh-based partner Fiona Killen. The successful candidate will support the work of our new division, with a particular focus on public procurement (both contentious and non-contentious), state aid, public sector structures and governance matters.

Whilst the role will predominantly focus on those types of work, we have an ambitious growth strategy which will allow the successful candidate to become involved in the wider work of the division, including: policy influence and legislative drafting, creating and implementing new regulatory structures, judicial review and other statutory challenges, public enquiries, statutory investigations, information law and governance, together with work for our charity and not-for-profit sector clients.

Candidates should have general knowledge of law and practice within the public sector (ideally with knowledge of public procurement and state aid law), reflecting their level of qualification. Some knowledge of the other areas referred to above would also be relevant.

You must have a passion for working in the field of public law, be pragmatic and results focused, while working under pressure. We are looking for candidates with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, excellent written and oral communication skills, and who are determined to provide a first-class service. Ability to work in a close-knit team and a strong work ethic is also essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading team in a successful, growing firm.

To apply for this position please send a copy of your CV and covering letter to Michelle.MacPherson@burnesspaull.com. If you would like to discuss the role in more detail, please contact Michelle MacPherson on.
