The opportunity

The Role
Solicitors will be part of the legal team, working closely with Managers, Senior Solicitors, Trainees and Legal Analysts.

Key responsibilities
* Conducting Funds practice specific fee-earning work
* On specific projects, as required, supervising Trainees or Legal Analysts in relation to individual matters, dealing with complex legal matters or generally as directed by team leaders.
* Where required, stepping up to a management support role for Senior Solicitors and/or Managers on fee earning projects including conducting quality control review and managing the day to day running of fee earning matters.
* Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of law to the local office's practice.
* Ensuring compliance with financial disciplines on matters (e.g. daily time-recording).
* Providing any other assistance to the business on client matters and related tasks, as required.

Skills, experience and qualifications

* Qualified solicitor in England and Wales or Northern Ireland, but Republic of Ireland or other common law jurisdictions will be considered. (If not qualified in England and Wales then willing to complete process to requalify as such, if required.)
* 1+ year's PQE, with at least 6 months experience within a Finance practice area.
* High level of attention to detail, but can also step back from the detail and see problems, opportunities and trends.
* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to summarise complex issues succinctly verbally and in writing.
* Strong analytical ability, coupled with sound judgement to balance multiple factors and solve complex problems.
* Experience of supervising more junior solicitors or legal staff, ideally including identifying and responding to training needs.
* Strong IT literacy, including an aptitude for learning (and becoming proficient in) the use of software and IT applications, for example using software tools intelligently to navigate large databases/document management systems.
* Comfortable with technology and an aptitude for learning new skills in this area.
* Experience working in a commercial legal environment, ideally a private practice law firm.

Group / Team description

Solicitors will be part of the legal team, working closely with Managers, Senior Solicitors, Trainees and Legal Analysts.

Our Funds team provide a wide range of legal services to major asset management clients and the funds managed by them, including implementation of complex restructurings, cross-jurisdictional regulatory projects and day-to-day operational support. They regularly deal with a broad range of fund structures including private equity and hedge funds and UCITS. You will be comfortable applying what you know to creative and varied projects and business-as-usual workstreams. This role requires an entrepreneurial mind-set and a flexible and responsive approach. You will scope and set-up new matters and conduct fee-earning work directly as well as supervising teams. You are also likely to be asked to assist in preparing pitch documents.

You will have a deeply client-focused approach and be ready to apply that experience to our transactional practice where we work closely with internal clients (i.e. you will be confident and comfortable liaising with partners around the organisation) and you will often work direct with our external clients.
