BRODIES RECRUITMENT COURAGE, CHARACTER, CARE, COLLEGIATE, COLLABORATIVE

Brodies LLP is the largest law firm headquartered in Scotland measured by income, directory
rankings, and lawyer numbers. With more than 700 people working across Aberdeen, Dingwall,
Edinburgh, and Glasgow, we combine the individual expertise of our colleagues, from all areas
of our business, so that we can deliver Enlightened Thinking - new knowledge and new legal
possibilities that are uniquely suited to each of our clients in Scotland, the UK and
internationally.
JOB TITLE Solicitor/Associate (3+ years PQE) – Real Estate, Voluntary Registration Unit
(Possible remote/flexible working arrangements) LOCATION Candidates can be based in any of our office locations – Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Dingwall.
There is also potential for predominantly remote working. Some office attendance would be required.
Our systems are equipped to support agile working. REPORTING TO Clive Phillips, Partner JOB PURPOSE We have an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor or Associate in our Voluntary Registration Unit (VRU)
within the Real Estate practice area. The VRU is responsible for delivery of voluntary registration
projects for existing landed estates and landowner clients. We currently have a busy pipeline of voluntary
registration projects and we anticipate this growing in line with Registers of Scotland targets and growing
awareness within the landowning community of the benefits of land registration.

The Land and Rural Business team at Brodies has highly developed procedures and expertise within this
sector and is currently progressing several high value and complex registration applications, as well as
routine registrations. We also have the IT systems and support network (including professional support
lawyers and strong relations with case officers at Registers of Scotland) to ensure effective delivery of
voluntary registration projects. The further investment in the VRU demonstrates our commitment to this
sector.

The role will be client facing and the role holder will work closely with other members of the VRU team in
delivering registration projects. The role holder will be expected to work autonomously and pro-actively in
progressing applications, but with support and guidance from colleagues. The transferable skills and
experience held by the role holder and wider team will also be deployed within other strategic land
business areas of the Real Estate practice area, including site assembly for infrastructure projects. We
identify significant potential for the growth and expansion of the VRU and the role holder will have
opportunity and encouragement to develop their role and their career at Brodies.

As part of the Real Estate practice area, the VRU will be active in client and sector engagement on legal
and market developments, and the successful applicant will have opportunities to become involved in
initiatives that will develop skills and build personal and team profile. CORE TASKS
