The department

Our data protection specialists work hand in hand with a wide ranging client base to provide a full service data protection compliance service.

Above all, our team members are fully engaged and enthusiastic about all things data protection. Team members undertake a broad variety of work including compliance planning, gap analysis and auditing, drafting of policies and procedures, negotiation of data processing and sharing contracts, breach management, management of rights requests, delivery of training and provision of data protection input on commercial transactions.

The team is in high demand with a busy workload.

Data protection in integrated into a range of core service offerings across the firm, affording team members the opportunity to work closely other teams across the firm, in particular the corporate, and technology teams.

We have significant experience in the following areas:

* Data protection aspects of major corporate transactional work, including acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures

* Preparation and delivery of bespoke training for a wide range of specialist sectors including technology, healthcare, automotive, public sector, housing and charity

* Delivery of emergency breach management support

* Responding to SARs and other data subject rights requests

* Data auditing and preparation of compliance strategy

* Drafting a wide range of privacy and data protection policies for clients in the UK and overseas

* International data transfer

* Negotiation and drafting of data processing and data sharing contracts

Purpose of job

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic and growing team dealing with high quality work. We are looking for a Solicitor with a commitment to outstanding customer service and the desire to develop technical expertise to cover a broad range of work across the team and contribute more widely to the team and its growth.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

* Running and managing smaller matters.

* Interacting directly with clients and managing their expectations.

* Delivering training and public speaking

* Business Development

Accountabilities

Advising on a wide range of non-contentious data protection matters to include;

* Policy drafting

* Contract drafting and negotiation

* Corporate transactional support

* Consultancy and auditing work

* Public speaking and delivery of training

* Advising on non-contentious commercial IP and IT matters to include:

* Drafting of IP licenses and assignments

* Drafting of SaaS agreements and software licenses

Data Security:

* Ensure you are aware of and comply with all information security policies of the organisation relevant to your business role;

* Report any actual or potential security breaches; and

* Contribute to risk assessment where required.

* All employees have the authority to act to prevent an information security incident from occurring or escalating, where possible.

The candidate

* The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to undertake some IP and IT work.

* The successful candidate will be provided with ongoing support and training to assist them in developing their technical expertise and client portfolio.

* Applications will be considered from individuals without data protection experience if they are able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the subject area.

Qualifications/Experience

* A Solicitor of 0 - 3 years PQE gained within a strong regional or City firm.

* A demonstrable interest in and awareness of data protection issues.

* Strong academic background.

* An excellent attention to detail to produce work/ documentation which is consistently of a high standard.

* A flexible approach to work to ensure client and regulatory deadlines are always met.

* The ability to communicate clearly and to explain complex legal concepts to clients.

* Proficient and engaging public speaker.

* Interest in and aptitude for business development.
