We currently have an opportunity within our Property and Infrastructure Disputes practice group for a Contentious Construction lawyer based in Edinburgh.

The role is to join our Contentious Construction team located within the firm’s PID group, which is part of the firm’s wider Commercial Disputes and Regulation division.

The team’s construction disputes expertise is vast and includes the following areas: infrastructure, civil engineering, utilities, waste-water, transport, energy, renewables, flood prevention schemes, commercial, domestic, PFI/PPP, and professional negligence.

The role will include:

* Advising contractors and employers throughout the UK on issues relating to construction and engineering contracts, including disputes about variations to contract works, termination, notices, payment provisions, extensions of time, additional costs, defects, breach of contract claims and professional negligence.

* Advising contractors and employers in construction disputes in the Court of Session, Sheriff Court, and the Technology and Construction Court, carrying out case investigation and preparation, drafting written pleadings, advising on and negotiating settlements and appearing in court.

* Advising and representing employers and contractors throughout the UK in Adjudications, Mediations and Arbitrations.

The team works closely with colleagues both within the PID practice group and around the firm, especially from the Infrastructure and Projects teams.

The successful candidate will have some experience in contentious construction (this is ideal but not essential), strong analytical and drafting skills, the ability to provide and to communicate practical and commercial advice as well as good interpersonal and consultancy skills.
