JOB TITLE Senior Solicitor / Associate (4+ years PQE) – Real Estate/Commercial – Hotel Focused Based in Edinburgh REPORTING TO Robert Asher, Partner JOB PURPOSE The Real Estate practice at Brodies is top ranked by the independent legal directories Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500, and is regarded by market commentators as the leading practice in the Scottish market in recent years.

Whilst Brodies have always advised clients in respect to transactions in the Hospitality sector, the Firm has recently expanded its practice in this area considerably. Robert Asher, a partner with 20 years' experience in the industry and a thriving global practice, has recently joined the Firm. Accordingly, we currently have an opportunity for a mid-level solicitor or junior associate to join a team that focuses on hotel-related matters, and in particular on hotel management agreement and related work and transactions involving branded residential developments. The Firm represents several of the leading luxury hotel operators and numerous owners, is now acting on matters in Asia, Africa, North America and the Middle East as well as in the UK.

We anticipate that the role will initially be split between hotels work and mainstream commercial property work, with a particular focus on investment and development deals in the Alternatives Sector but over time would focus increasingly on hotel work. This role will be client facing and involve building and maintaining client relationships on an ongoing basis. The successful applicant will work closely with Robert Asher, Helen Abrams and the wider team and responsibilities include drafting and participating in client communication and negotiations. An interest in business development, networking and having an eager, pro-active and ambitious attitude is essential for this role, as is the willingness to travel internationally.

CORE TASKS

• Assisting with market leading hotel transactions.
• Negotiating and implementing the full spectrum of contractual documents for hotel management agreement transactions and branded residential developments and advising on Hotel M&A transactions.
• Participation in business development activities of the practice area and firm.
• Be aware of Brodies’ information security policies, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times. PERSON SPECIFICATION
• Ideally with some exposure to work in the hospitality industry, but candidates with solid commercial contract experience eager to learn the specifics of the hotel business will also be considered.
• Can demonstrate active interest and enthusiasm for the hospitality business.
• Takes personal responsibility to learn on the job and keep knowledge up to date.
• Works effectively with other team members.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Communicates in a confident, clear and relaxed way.
• Adapts style of communication appropriately when dealing with colleagues and clients.
• Takes responsibility for their own transactions and advice.
• Ability to deal with competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Shows understanding of clients’ needs, and tailors advice appropriately.
• Culturally aware and sensitive to the needs and preferences of clients, particularly those in the Middle East.
• Willingness to travel internationally.
