We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Legal Advisor within our Legal department assisting the Vice President and the General Counsel - Europe with a wide range of legal matters relevant to the food manufacturing industry; primarily commercial, corporate, compliance, litigation, intellectual property, real estate and company secretarial matters.



We are Tate & Lyle Sugars part of the ASR Group, our companies have more than 150 years of experience taking sugar cane from the field to the table.  Our expertise in every aspect of the cane sugar process is without equal.  We are the largest vertically integrated cane sugar refiner in the world.  Our nine refineries are found in five countries across the globe and collectively can produce more than six million tons of sugar. We also own and operate sugar mills in the United States, Mexico and Belize. This position is based in our head office in Covent Garden with occasion travel to our other sites in East London.


This role will support the wider organisation on a broad range of commercial, corporate, compliance, IPR, litigation and commercial matters.You will be a key player in managing the development of our junior lawyers paving the way in excellence in regards to mentoring and training within the team.


Daily duties will include but limited to:  

  • Providing legal advice across the business
  • Support the Vice President, General Counsel – Europe on corporate housekeeping and company secretarial matters;
  • Liaise with external legal advisors as appropriate and to assist the Vice President, General Counsel to manage outside counsel expenditures.
  • Effective prioritisation of matters and prompt efficient service.
  • Quality of legal advice and effective management of contracts, transactions and other matters.
  • Effective management of outside counsel.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.



Are you our NEW Senior Legal Advisor?

You will be the type of person that will remain informed of changes in the law and regulation especially changes affecting the business and cascade to the business, as appropriate. You will have the ability to effectively interact with the business organisation and managers to arrive at practical and legal solutions to business issues.


You will be a team player who can effectively support the legal team and able to prioritise matters and provide a prompt efficient service. You will give quality legal advice and effectively manage the execution of contracts, transactions and other matters.

You will have strong communication skills, both written and oral with attention to detail. You will have excellent legal research and analysis skills, with demonstrable ability to apply these skills to produce pragmatic solutions. You will have a good understanding of contract, commercial, and corporate law; and knowledge of competition and intellectual property law preferred.


  • Good understanding of all aspects of contract, commercial, competition and corporate law; knowledge of litigation, compliance and intellectual property law.
  • Must have cross border legal experience.

  • Must be able to operate autonomously.

  • Decisive with good problem solving skills.

  • Knowledge of food industry and the business helpful but not required.

  • Must be able to operate autonomously and handle diverse workload.

  • Solid experience in balancing legal risks with commercial needs.

  • At least five years post-qualification experience in particular, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.

  • Ideally legal experience should have been obtained working for a period, for a large international group.




  • Law degree or equivalent
  • Qualified as a Solicitor in England & Wales
