The team

Our Real Estate group is one of the largest real estate teams in the UK, advising an impressive range of clients including commercial and residential developers, investors, major corporate occupiers and banks/funders. Offering exceptional market knowledge the team holds an outstanding reputation with our clients and is a recognised leader in the Scottish Living Sector.

You will be part of a team of specialists within the Scottish residential development team who deal with issues around site acquisition for housebuilders, disposals, forward funding, affordable, mixed use, site set up and all related issues including planning, infrastructure, real estate tax, and construction. Our integrated teams work seamlessly to deliver specialist advice cost effectively and help clients achieve their goals, ensuring nothing is missed. Clients comment on Shoosmiths lawyers’ willingness to listen and understand the commercial goals of their scheme before offering clear, strategic advice.

The role

Our formidable real estate team is undergoing an unprecedented level of growth nationally and our Scottish team is taking a prominent role in that with a brief to take on additional associates.

The successful candidates will be joining a recognisable force in the Living Sector and therefore candidates with expertise in this area is preferred however we will look at exceptional candidates who lack this experience. We act for major UK national developers and housebuilders through all stages of their development process so excellent client facing skills and efficient and organised working approach are essential.

Skills and qualifications

* 1-5 PQE

* Experience preferable

* Residential development work – support on contract negotiations, drafting and completion matters including LBTT and registration

* Conveyancing on disposals and acquisitions

* Site set up including deeds of conditions, development plan approval, utilities disposals and servitudes, searches, advance notices, other servitudes and wayleaves

* Sasine and Land registered title reports, title indemnity policies in respect of minerals reservations and/or other title restrictions

* Reports and communication with clients including team to teams and calls

* Client interface – good people skills

* Business development

* Article drafting and social media skills

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to take initiative

* Research on points of law/practice

* Someone who will “go the extra mile”

* With clients at the heart of everything we do there may be occasional ability to be flexible as regards working hours to meet the demands of the work.
