Job Description | Programme ManagerThe RoleDepartment: Information TechnologyLocation: LondonRole: Programme ManagerThe TeamThe Programme Manager is responsible, on behalf of the PMO, for delivering IT change to
the organisation. The role requires effective co-ordination of the programme’s projects and
management of their inter-dependencies including oversight of any risks and issues arising.
It also includes the co-ordination of the new capability for the business to enable effective
change and realisation of projected benefits.

In most cases, the Programme Manager will work full-time on the programme. The role is
crucial for creating and maintaining focus, enthusiasm and momentum. The Programme
Manager is responsible for the overall integrity and coherence of the programme. They will
develop and maintain the programme environment to support each individual project within it
- often through an effective programme management office.Key ResponsibilitiesPlanning (40%)Planning and designing the programme and proactively monitoring its progress,

resolving issues and initiating appropriate corrective actionManaging the programme's budget on behalf of the PMO, monitoring expenditure and
costs against delivered and realised benefits as the programme progressesFacilitating the appointment of individuals to project teamsManaging both the dependencies and the interfaces between projects Business and SME Engagement (20%)Managing third party contributions to the programmeManaging communications with all stakeholdersWorking with representatives from the business on the transition to the new business as
usual positionGovernance (20%)Defining and leading the programme's governance arrangementsEnsuring there is allocation of common resources and skills within the programme's

Initiating extra activities and other management interventions wherever gaps in the
programme are identified or issues ariseSupervision of project managers involved in the delivery of the programme being
managedReporting and Measurement (20%)Ensuring effective quality assurance and the overall integrity of the programme -
focusing inwardly on the internal consistency of the programme, and outwardly on its
coherence with infrastructure planning, interfaces with other programmes and corporate,
technical and specialist standardsEnsuring the delivery of new products or services from projects is to the appropriate level
of quality, on time and within budget, in accordance with the programme plan and
programme governance arrangementsReporting the progress of the programme at regular intervals to the IT Leadership TeamWorking with value specialists to ensure value proposition and success criteria are
constantly measured and plans are kept on track in responseWorking with Business Analysts to ensure business requirements are constantly
measured to ensure business expectations are met and plans are kept on track in
responseWorking with Programme Portfolio analysts, ensure programme status reporting is
regularly kept up to date and delivered in the format as required by IT Leadership and
project governance bodiesEssential Skills & ExperienceSubstantial proven experience in a similar role within a professional services
environmentEffective leadership, interpersonal and communication skillsThe ability to command respect and to create a sense of community amongst the
members of the project teamsExcellent knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes.
An eye for detail and proven ability to control and track delivery through the lifecycle of
the programmeSound business case development and approvals skillsExcellent understanding of the procurement process including negotiation with third
partiesExcellent knowledge of programme and project management methods including MSP
and PRINCE2Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation proceduresSufficient seniority and credibility to advise project teams on their projects in relation to
the programmeThe ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems
