Professional Support Legal Assistant

Position Summary

A Professional Support Legal Assistant (PSLA) assisting a Professional Support Counsel (PSC) and Professional Support Lawyer (PSL)/Knowledge Manager, reporting to the Director of Professional Support.

Assigned primarily to the central PSLA team but providing some dedicated support to the Tier 1 Market Leading London Capital Markets Group and the Public M&A Group (the “Group”).

Duties and Accountabilities1

Capital Markets

* Provide support in respect of training programmes run by the Group (including liaising with speakers, setting up and tracking invitations and reminders, helping amend or finalise training materials and slides, ensuring the smooth running of sessions on the day, tracking attendance, liaising with others to set up virtual links and reminding speakers in advance of sessions, recording sessions, sending out the materials ahead of the session and distributing materials after the session in any);

* Draft and assist with editing contributions to the monthly Capital Markets current awareness bulletin;

* Conduct research on legal developments or new areas of law relevant to the Group and provide practical user friendly notes and guides;

* Assist in the maintenance of practice notes and standard forms;

* Provide direct support to individual practitioners to assist them with locating practice-related internal and external knowledge resources;

* Maintain the knowledge-related aspects of the Group’s resources on Connect (Firm’s Intranet);

* Assist the PSCs in preparing and researching know-how and knowledge sharing to the global capital markets group and preparing the agenda, settingup the meeting and liaising with the wider team to develop conent and secure speakers for the monthly Group meetings;

* Assist with the Sustainable Finance Working Group;

Public M&A

* Provide support in respect of training programmes run by the Group (including liaising with speakers, setting up and tracking invitations and reminders, helping amend or finalise training materials and slides, ensuring the smooth running of sessions on the day, tracking attendance, liaising with others to set up virtual links and reminding speakers in advance of sessions, recording sessions, sending out the materials ahead of the session and distributing materials after the session, if any);

* Update and maintain knowledge initiatives, including databases which track market developments, public M&A deals and external precedents;

* Save precedent documents on the internal systems;

* Assist with legal research tasks and provide summary reports;

* Assist with document retrieval tasks using both internal and external databases and resources.

Central

* Participate in regular meetings of the Professional Support function and Knowledge Department and liaise with other PSCs/PSLs/PSLAs to facilitate the sharing of best practice and knowledge;

* Assist in the implementation of wider Knowledge initiatives and projects as required.

Essential Job Requirements

* Prior experience in a knowledge management/professional support team would be highly desirable but is not necessary;

* High professional standards;

* Strong attention to detail;

* Excellent drafting and research skills;

* Well-developed organizational and communication skills;

* Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels;

* Pragmatic, self-motivated, flexible and able to work both in team and individually as required;

* Willingness to take on additional tasks as and when required;

* Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office, ideally experience of iManage/document management systems.

Qualifications

* Degree educated, preferably LLB, plus LPC.

* Highly desirable to have taken the following electives on the LPC: Banking and Debt Finance and Public Companies and Equity Finance (or equivalent) but is not necessary.

* Highly desirable to have secured a future training contract at another firm.
