Main purpose of the role:

We seek a Professional Support Lawyer to work within our dispute resolution group, providing legal and technical support to all lawyers across all DRG/ UK litigation teams. The position is UK based, and largely UK focussed.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To undertake research and answer queries.
  • To develop sector expertise where identified/ requested.
  • To help develop and lead training sessions given to the group, sector teams or other teams around the firm, to include deciding upon relevant training topics, preparing training material and giving training where appropriate.
  • To prepare training seminar notes and slides for client seminars (generally on behalf of partners) and also, where appropriate, to help deliver such sessions.
  • To write articles and alerts for external publication, to include identifying suitable topics, writing articles and liaising with partners and senior lawyers.
  • To assist with the group's digital offerings to include writing articles for the firm's website, producing podcasts, tweeting etc.
  • To keep up to date on, and to ensure fee earners are kept up to date on new legislation/ cases/ articles of interest; to keep up to date on, and to ensure fee earners are kept up to date on, the Civil Procedure Rules and Court processes and procedures; likewise with arbitration rules, processes and procedures where requested; in each case be that on an individual, team or group wide basis.
  • To review and update the group’s precedent bank, and (when held outside the group) the firm's litigation and arbitration precedents.
  • To review and add to the group’s know-how database, and (when held outside the group) the firm's litigation and arbitration know-how.
  • Attending Court Users’ meetings and other relevant external meetings as appropriate.
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by any Partner, senior lawyer or senior Professional Support Lawyer.
Key Skills and Experience:
  • A good, general litigation background.
  • A thorough knowledge of the CPR and other procedural guidelines.
  • An ability to work quickly and confidently with all parts of the DRG and UK litigation teams irrespective of familiarity with their particular areas of expertise.
  • A thorough knowledge of and ability to navigate and use research tools, both electronic and hard copy.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Has first rate communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Is self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work on his/ her own initiative.
  • Is able to work under pressure and time constraints.
  • Is able to work with the minimum of supervision.
  • Is positive and flexible.
  • Is forward thinking.
  • Enjoys training (receiving and delivering) and can engage with people at all levels.
  • Is able to work as a member of both a small team and a wider group.

Standard hours of work are 9.30 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday with 1 hour for lunch (35 hours per week
