Our client law firm based in Letchworth is looking for a Private Client Solicitor to come and join their friendly firm.

Role Review:

The role available is for a five year (plus) qualified solicitor in Private Client Law on a full time, permanent basis.  The position reports into the Head of Department.

The role involves running a full caseload to include:

  • Tax (inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and income tax)

  • Court of protection (deputyships, trusteeships etc)

  • Estate (estate administration and planning)

  • Wills

  • Probate

  • Trust matters

  • LPA’s

Duties and Responsibilities


You will be carrying out duties of a Solicitor, in a professional and efficient manner, meeting with clients' needs whilst contributing to the overall cost effective management and success of the department.


Main duties:

  • Ensure instructions and tasks are dealt with promptly, and in a cost effective and efficient manner in accordance with the policies and regulations set by the firm and the Code of Conduct of the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

  • Liaising the Head of Department and with staff to optimise the workload of the department.

  • Liaising the Head of Department and with staff to ensure adequate cover within the department at all times, and to attend to clients of other fee earners in their absence, where this is appropriate.

  • Prioritise own workload, maintaining accurate records of time spent on all activities, ensuring that bills are presented on time and that the agreed procedures within the business relating to matter management and file control are adhered to.

  • Maintain fee income in line with targets and agreed objectives and in accordance with the current policies and procedures.

  • Monitoring personal performance against agreed targets and objectives, and also the performance of staff for which you are directly responsible, highlighting areas of inefficiency and ineffectiveness, taking action where necessary to improve any deficiencies.

  • Attending upon clients to take instructions and advising on the most appropriate course of action to meet clients' needs; taking appropriate action in executing clients' instructions in a timely manner.

  • Maintain competence through the firm’s training policy and procedures, whilst ensuring a personal development portfolio and relevant training records, which satisfy the current regulations and requirements as specified by The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), are kept updated.

  • Keep informed of all changes in the law and practice in your own area of work.

  • Undertaking other duties of a reasonable nature which may be requested from time to time including relevant marketing and business development activities.


Essential / Desired Skills & Experience:


  • At least five years PQE in Private Client Law

  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel

  • Have working knowledge of Proclaim Case Management System (in Private Client module)


Personal Specification:


  • Be self-disciplined and able to work on own or as part of a team

  • Maintain case files in a manner appropriate to the work being done and the requirements of the SRA and Lexcel standards

  • Be able to demonstrate ability to work under pressure and to achieve dead lines

  • Have good communication skills and examples of effective communication

  • Excellent time management skills to deal with demanding work load

  • Have a degree of flexibility both to the role and the hours of working

  • Be an active contributor to Teamwork

  • Be able to maintain good working relationships with employees, Clients and external organisations

  • Be presentable at all times maintaining professional image of the department and the firm. Be trust worthy and honest



Additional Information:



Reports to:                         Head of Department  


Type of role:           Full time, Permanent


Hours:                    Monday to Friday  9:00 to 5:15pm (1 hour for lunch)


Salary:                    £50,000 pa


Pension:                 Workplace pension arrangements available


Benefits:                 20 days holiday P.A. increasing to 25 days after three years of continued service.


Location:                Either in the Biggleswade or Letchworth Office
