Our Planning team specialises in planning, environmental and local government work and acts for major developers and on infrastructure projects. We deal with all aspects of planning law including negotiations and appeals for planning and associated consents, the drafting and negotiation of planning and related agreements and the environmental implications of development proposals.
Known for our excellent client service, superb technical ability and invaluable practical experience we are the largest planning team in the North and have a stand alone planning department where the quality of work for solicitors is unparalleled.
The team has dealt with over 30 planning appeals in the last two years, dealing with varied sectors such as waste/renewables, motorway services, residential, and retail schemes. Working regularly at the coal face places us in a unique position to understand and address effectively the ever changing challenges of the planning system.
In both planning and environment law, we have the ability to manage cases from ‘cradle to grave’ providing an effective ‘one stop shop’ for strategic advice and advocacy services and we are recognised for our formidable advocacy skills. Undertaking our own advocacy at Public Inquiries is a key skill which strengthens the depth of our expertise and sets us aside from other teams of planning lawyers.
The Team has real strength of numbers to help co-ordinate planning applications and deal with contentious matters at the Planning Appeal or Call-In stage including our own Chartered Town Planning Team who provide key services on the preparation, submission and negotiation of planning applications on a diverse range of development projects.
Our involvement in CPO and Upper Tribunal matters (providing advocacy at both) and Judicial Review, including significant Court of Appeal successes, provides a complete skill set for all aspects of work.
What we’re looking for
Our growth plans provide an opportunity now for a 5 or 6 years qualified planning lawyer to join the team. You must have excellent technical skills, ambition, drive and be commercial, with experience gained from either a law firm’s planning department (rather than from a real estate background), from the Bar, or from a local authority environment.
Please do get in touch if you are ready for that step up in your career.
