Responsibilities

* Managing large, significant bid proposals and pitch presentations to support lawyers in Mayer Brown offices in EMEA, in order to produce effective and targeted material and responses to client opportunities.
* Supporting, when required, opportunities submitted to the Global Proposal Center.
* Providing best practice and advisory support to business development and marketing colleagues engaged in the pursuit of opportunities or developing new business client material.
* Serve as the project manager for significant proposal and pitch presentation opportunities led by lawyers in Mayer Brown EMEA offices, from opportunity identification through to project delivery;
* Lead bid planning meetings to establish win themes, competitive strategy, proposition development and commercial approach;
* Manage workflow of EMEA bid opportunities among proposal support colleagues.
* Support lawyers in the negotiation of commercial terms, including contractual terms and conditions;
* Draft, edit and produce proposals, pitch presentations and other related technical and commercial material associated with the bid process.
* Work closely with EMEA lawyers and members of the BD&M team to ensure that relevant materials are high-quality, strategic, reflective of best practices in the marketplace and reinforces the Firm’s brand messaging.
* Provide strategic thinking and ideas on structuring, managing and enhancing the firm’s proposal/pitch approach – as well as deploying improvements as identified and agreed upon with management
* Ensure that all firm lawyers responding to formal requests for proposals or generating similar materials benefit from strategic research; analytical thinking; appropriate challenge when required; skilled writing and efficient production resources;
* Report on pitch and proposal activity and performance within EMEA.
* Contribute to the proposal process at the global level; as such, provides oversight and/or input pertaining to the development and management of all proposal center tools and content, and communicates and documents processes, responsibilities and deliverables
* Collaborate with global BD&M colleagues and other key stakeholders in the BD&M department on shared projects and areas of responsibility such as proposal process and strategy, and client research and analysis
* Identify opportunities for proposal/business development education and training for members of the EMEA BD&M team
* Supervise the capturing and maintenance of proposal content repositories that support the development of proposal documents
* Rehearse and coach bid teams in preparation for formal presentations and associated meetings

Qualifications

* An undergraduate degree, preferably in a marketing, business, research, or communications-related field.
* A minimum of 7 years of demonstrated success in a business development or marketing related position that involved proposal writing for legal services or in a comparable position in the professional services arena (e.g., accounting or consulting)
* Project Management
* Drafting skills
* Research skills and familiarity with public and proprietary data sources
* Ability to engage with senior management.
* Commercially astute
* Attention to detail
* Advanced MS Office experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Experience with proposal generation system(s) would be preferred.
* A creative thinker willing to present new ideas and approaches
* Ability to exhibit required leadership behaviours and attributes
* Exceptional project management skills; ability to work to tight deadlines and to manage numerous competing priorities
* Delivery / solution focused with a strong flair for systems and clarity
* Ability to work independently, jointly and under pressure including when facing multiple tasks and conflicting priorities
* A team player with a commitment to managing and developing other team members
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Demonstrated good judgment, a team-first attitude, meticulous and results driven
