About the Generalist Lawyer role:

Sellick Partnership is currently working with a striving Local Authority in the East Midlands that are seeking a qualified Lawyer on a permanent and full-time basis to join the team for an exciting opportunity.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with initiative, a proactive approach to problem solving and a real commitment to the job. The successful Generalist Lawyer will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Providing advice and assistance on a wide range of local government law and governance
• Supporting the legal team as required, including advice, interpretation, drafting and representation at court, hearings, tribunals and Council Committees in areas including, but not limited to, contracts, planning, regulatory, housing and general local government law.
• Supporting income generation by providing advice to external clients in respect of the matters above.
• Engaging in marketing activities including attending networking events, presenting training courses and writing website articles.
• Supporting the Head of Legal and Support Services and Legal Services Team Manager to ensure legality in the Council's decision-making process and that the council's various committees, boards, groups and working parties have the appropriate level of legal advice and support
• To attend or represent the Head of Legal and Support Services or Legal Services Team Manager at meetings (including evening meetings) of the Council, committees, sub-committees and other boards, groups and working parties as requested.

Experience required for the Generalist Lawyer role:

Prospective candidates need to be a qualified solicitor or legal executive and to have hunger to develop your skills in various areas of law.

Local government experience is desirable but not a deal breaker. Candidates of all levels including newly qualified with the drive to succeed and develop experience are encouraged to apply.
