Position Summary Statement:

We are seeking to recruit an experienced paralegal within our Public Law & Human Rights Department, to assist with a group of cases relating to the TOEIC scandal. Bindmans acts for a number of individuals who were wrongly accused of cheating on a TOEIC English language test and had immigration enforcement action taken against them as a result. You would be supporting a fee earner in relation to civil claims and public law challenges on behalf of those affected.

The role is for a six month fixed term initially, with prospects of extension.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The role will consist of handling new enquiries, assisting the fee earner with case preparation, file administration, preparing and managing funding applications to the Legal Aid Agency, undertaking legal research, preparing draft documents including witness statements and schedules, drafting aspects of advice, processing evidence, preparing, collating and ordering documentation, and attending conferences.

Skills / Knowledge Requirements:

Legal qualifications, legal professional experience, and knowledge of immigration law and civil procedure are desirable. Civil Legal Aid applications and claims experience is essential.

You will also need to be highly motivated, proactive, self-servicing, enthusiastic, have excellent drafting, communication, organisation and administrative skills, a flexible and professional attitude, an ability to work on confidential matters and under pressure together with a keen eye for detail
