We are seeking a confident, proactive, flexible, enthusiastic, self-motivated and professional full time Paralegal/FIID Executive to provide support to our Forensic Investigation & Intervention Department’s (FIID) team based in Putney.

Background to Department

Intervention into a solicitor's practice is a statutory power given to the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). The SRA appoints Intervention Agents such as Russell-Cooke to undertake this work on its behalf. The aims of an intervention are to take possession of the intervened firm's practice papers, distribute them (where appropriate) to the clients and return client monies, where possible. The Intervention Agent does not continue the practice of the intervened solicitor.

Job Purpose

The discharge of the FIID Executive's obligations following receipt of client instructions in relation to intervened solicitors’ client files and monies.

The position is fee-earning.

Summary of Position

The Paralegal/FIID Executive is allocated specific interventions and is responsible for handling the administration of the intervention in accordance with the SRA's instructions. The role includes attending interventions, administration of client files and papers uplifted during the intervention and the handling of telephone calls and correspondence received in relation to allocated interventions. 

The Paralegal/FIID Executive could be given responsibility for the legal and administrative progress of one or more interventions at a time.  Opportunities may arise to become involved in projects originating outside of the department. These projects usually involve additional reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Attending an intervention and administration of client files.
  • Be the first point of contact for all queries received including clients and third parties, and dealing with the same effectively in a timely manner.
  • Prepare reports and submit them in a timely manner to the client.
  • Review files and ascertain the clients and the stage of each matter, including any urgency or time sensitive deadlines and take necessary actions.
  • Using the internal database effectively to capture all salient information.
  • Understanding disclosure rules and being able to deal with disclosure queries from third parties.
  • Being familiar with SAR rules.
  • Handling accounting information. Analysing files, assessing accounting information and collating the same to ascertain the beneficial entitlement of monies held.
  • Dealing with calls and correspondence received.
  • Preparing monthly invoices and reports.

Essential Skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office/IT literate.
  • Excellent communication both written and verbal - the role involves liaison with internal and external people at a senior level.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • A self-starter, able to demonstrate high levels of initiative and motivation, but also work closely with other team members and display trust and loyalty.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks in an assertive, efficient and timely manner.
  • Good drafting, correspondence and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Must be methodical with strong organisational, self-organisational and multitasking skills.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • This role will be suitable for a foreign qualified lawyer or someone with previous paralegal experience.
  • Some previous experience in regulation and professional discipline would be an advantage.
