JOB TITLE
Network Administrator.
Based in Edinburgh. REPORTING TO

Infrastructure Manager and working closely with all members of the IT Team. JOB PURPOSE
Part of the Infrastructure Team, the Network Administrator’s role is to assist to the Infrastructure Manager
in ensuring the stable operation of the in-house systems and infrastructure, and to provide high level
technical support. The role includes installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimising
network hardware, network software, and communication links. The Network Administrator will also
investigate and resolve hardware and software computer problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and
assist end users where required. The role will primarily consist of system administration and support and
project work, though flexibility is required depending on the practice area’s workload. The role is based in
Edinburgh though there will be a requirement to work from Glasgow and Aberdeen on occasion. CORE TASKS

 Installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware,
software, and peripheral devices.  Administration of servers, including Active Directory, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their
associated operating systems and software.  System backups and recovery.  Administer security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.



 Assist the Infrastructure Manager in the administration of network hardware and equipment, including
routers, switches, hubs, and UPS.  Monitor and maintain network connectivity.  Troubleshoot infrastructure problems and implement changes as required.  Monitor the security of the network using a variety of network and cyber security tools.  Assist with asset management.  Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.  Assist with network improvement projects, upgrades and repairs.  Set-up and support of Mobile working (e.g. Android smartphones, remote working etc.) and VOIP
telephony.  Assist the Infrastructure Manager on project work as required, and manage some projects.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
 Working technical knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Windows, Windows

Server (preferably including Server 206).  st and 2nd level IT support experience.  Working technical knowledge of established current network hardware, protocols, and standards.  Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.  Experience of using and administering VMware.  Azure & Office 365 (desirable).  Cisco switching and ASA firewalls (desirable).  Linux experience (desirable).  Certification in core technologies (desirable).  Information security experience (desirable).
