PURPOSE OF ROLE:

As a highly motivated and experienced DBA, you will be an integral part of the Development team and leader of the BI function. You will be responsible for the design, development and administration of databases for software solutions and will architect and maintain complex SQL infrastructure, utilising the latest technology.

You will be responsible for mentoring others, setting standards amongst the team and leading projects in all SQL technical aspects.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Lead

* Leadership of direct reports, including 1-2-1s, 6 monthly review process, motivation and quality monitoring
* Set clear team goals and evaluate progress along the way
* Coach team members on achieving goals and developing necessary skills to get results
* Identify the team’s strengths and weaknesses, determining areas of opportunity and appropriate steps to improve on them, incorporating these into training plans
* Deal with any conduct and capability issues where appropriate
* Participate in capacity planning and recruitment of new team members

DBA

* Overall responsibility for database and data security, owning all technical aspects of databases while mentoring others
* Design, development and maintenance of databases for software solutions
* Ensure policies, standards and procedures are in place and followed
* Documentation and version control of database objects
* Architect and maintain HA hybrid SQL infrastructure

* Monitor SQL infrastructure to identify performance problems and implement appropriate solutions
* SQL Server performance tuning and optimisation of database objects (indexing, stored procedures, queries, views, functions etc.)
* Build and update analytical reports to support BI team and stakeholders
* Implement technical procedures for change management
* Work with Infrastructure team in the provision and maintenance of backup and restore strategy
* Perform DR activities to ensure business continuity
* Ensure DR processes are current, documented and in line with RTO/RPO
* Contribute to the improvement of internal DevOps
* Demonstrate initiative and creativity to solve problems
* Proactively share information across the team
* Learn new technologies to fulfil business long-term strategies
* Meet KPIs and contribute to the professional development of the team

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

(5+ years’ experience of the following)

* Excellent communication and influencing skills are essential
* Must have integrity and a desire to lead by example
* Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills are also essential
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to support and drive progress is essential
* Strong organisational skills to help monitor progress and motivate team members
* Strong problem solving and analytical skills with an attention to detail
* Knowledge of RDBMS and XML database management systems
* SQL Server 2008 – 2016
* T-SQL programming
* Relational database design and implementation
* SQL Server architecture (SQL Clusters/nodes)
* SQL Profiler
* SSAS, SSRS and SSIS
* Deploying into live environment via CI / CD build pipelines.
* SQL Server performance tuning and optimisation
* Backups and Restores
* Managing SQL Server AG/DR (SQL 2016 AlwaysOn – failovers, Async/Sync, AG, Listeners, backups etc.)
* SQL Server security (access, encryption, data integrity etc.)
* Version control and change management

* SQL Development – ability to write, troubleshoot and challenge SQL Code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)
* Experience of implementing operational automation using scripts.
* Understanding / experience of data warehousing, SSIS and ETL practices
* Industry recognised accreditation / certification

DESIRABLE:

* Business Intelligence (PowerBI/Tableau)
* SQL Azure
* AWS / Microsoft Azure
* Non-relational Databases (MongoDB, DocumentDB, Blob Storage)
* Previous experience in mentoring or training
* An interest in machine learning (ML)
* Progress Openedge DB experience an advantage
* ITIL Foundation qualified
