IT Manager – Preston

Full Time – 35 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Napthens to join our IT Department, for a reliable and experienced technically skilled IT Manager to lead the technology delivery within the organisation. The right candidate will be passionate about software delivery, able to provide high performing platforms and able to lead people through technology changes. With a track record of 3 or more years in the legal sector coupled with a strong infrastructure background. Napthens is a natural progression for a forward-thinking technology leader.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Technical Leadership, management and mentoring a team of technical support analysts, third party support companies, software developers and IT trainers

* Selection, negotiation and ongoing management of suppliers and their service level agreements

* Manage delivery of technology demand and its supply structure within Napthens, including recruitment, mentoring, supervision, appraisal and career development of all IT staff ensuring the necessary skills are available within the team

* Ability to design, plan, manage and co-ordinate technical, infrastructure and development projects

* When required the ability to provide third line support within Citrix, VM Ware and basic networking environments.

* Understanding of the technology landscape and to articulate that into a cost effective IT strategy

* Develop, implement and monitor an annual business plan and budget to support implementation of the IT strategy across the firm, including providing a quarterly update to the Executive Board

* Full understanding of software licensing models, in particular, Microsoft

* Preparation and maintenance of up-to-date technical documentation

* Negotiating with suppliers of hardware and software to get the best deal, including external support, and being responsible for contracting consultants and making service agreements

* Overseeing the development and enhancement of systems and integration of new systems

* Liaising regularly with executive and senior management as well as systems users

* Developing standard operating procedures aligned to best practice, and ensuring written protocols and guidelines are provided for it staff and all end-users

* Ensuring written documentation is created and maintained, to include user and system manuals, licence agreements and all documentation relating to modifications and upgrades

* Creating a budget for each project as well as managing the financial aspects of the entire IT department such as purchases and ongoing budgeting

* Providing expert advice and support when systems are being upgraded or installed, or when there are conversions or file maintenance

* Understanding of data protection and specifically the new GDPR regulations

* Develop and implement policies and procedures for security, backup and disaster recovery

Technical Skills

* Experience working within a full virtual desktop environment – Citrix Xenapp 7.5

* Experience managing and maintaining network infrastructure (Vmware ESX 5.5, Netapp, Cisco switches)

* Experience dealing with IP telephony (Cisco Call Manager)

* Experience using Microsoft technologies (Active Directory, Exchange/Exchange online, SQL, Office 365)

* Experience of managed print solutions

* Managing the deployment, development, monitoring, maintenance, upgrading and support of organisational IT systems. This will include operating systems, servers, PCs, software apps, telephones and peripherals

* Experience working with security best practices (Cyber Essential Plus)

Key Competence Requirements

* Experience of managing multiple IT disciplines, including application development, infrastructure management, technical support and systems architecture

* Working with staff to develop plans and strategies so client services can be enhanced, user effectiveness improved and innovation encouraged

* Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high pressure environment to strict time and financial constraints using a structured approach to IT management

* Excellent organisational skills

* Commercially astute

* Strong leadership and decision making

* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

* Confident in presenting ideas and expert advice at Board level

* Ability to converse at all staff levels

* Ability to explain complex systems in simple terms

* An ability to work and deliver under pressure


* Bachelors degree in Programming, Computer Science or related field

* 4+ years management experience in an IT environment

* Desirable – PRINCE 2 Practitioner

* Microsoft Windows certificates highly desirable

* Experience working with legal technologies essential

* Solid understanding of legal case management and CRM systems
