An excellent opportunity has arisen for a caseworker or solicitor possessing The Law Society’s Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme accreditation (IAAS) accreditation. The successful candidate will utilise their Immigration law experience to manage a complex caseload of active asylum matters. IAAS accreditation at Level 1 or 2 will be essential.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

-          The ability to run their own cases;

-          A broad range of previous high-quality immigration practice experience is essential;

-          Evidence of interest in, and commitment to, the success of the firm. Relevant experience within a legal aid department is essential;

-          Experience of private immigration is desirable.

This is an exceptional opportunity to join an expanding law firm at an exciting time. There are genuine career progression prospects for the successful candidate, with good levels of remuneration (negotiable on experience).

Responsibilities 

·         Asylum claims for adults; 

·         Acting for unaccompanied minors;

·         Immigration detention cases, including fresh claim asylum matters and bail;  

·         Extension applications;

·         Exceptional Case Funding (ECF) matters;

·         Appeals to the First-tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal;

·         Judicial Review;

·         Fresh claims;

·         Human rights cases;

·         Victims of modern slavery or trafficking;

·         Victims of Domestic Violence.

 

The Candidate

·         A paralegal, legal executive, caseworker or solicitor with solid asylum and immigration experience;

·         An accredited member of the Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme (IAAS) for Immigration and Asylum at Level 1 or 2;

·         Being educated up to degree level is desirable;

·         Possesses outstanding communication skills both verbal and written;

·         Previous Legal Aid experience is essential;

·         Highly organised, prioritising own workload to meet tight deadlines;

·         The ability to prepare appeals to the IAC is essential for caseworkers.
