Your new company
MOSL was established in 2015 as a not-for-profit company to operate, develop and design the new business water market, which opened on 1 April 2017. They played a key role in the preparations to launch and open the market, by designing, building and implementing the central IT systems which sits at the heart of the new market. They are responsible for the smooth and efficient running of a new and growing business water market, allowing 1.2 million small businesses, public sector bodies, charity and not-for-profit organisations in England to choose who supplies their services.
In February 2018 they decided to relocate their headquarters out of London and move to Southampton as part of a wider strategic review about what was in the best interests of both the market and MOSL. Southampton is one of the most vibrant and fastest-growing economies in the UK and is attracting more businesses and start-ups than ever before.
Your new role
As the Head of Legal, Compliance and Risk, you will be a qualified legal professional and will serve as Company Secretary, reporting to the CEO. You will ensure the company operates within the law at all times and complies with all relevant market code requirements. You will coordinate and implement the necessary internal controls to remain in compliance with rules and regulations and best practice, and manage the risk and compliance framework for the business. You will be the primary contact for all legal matters across the business,. Acting as Company Secretary for the MOSL Board and Committees, you will manage the corporate fillings and provide corporate legal advice to the Board of Directors. In this role you will develop and manage a panel of external lawyers, you will manage the day to day legal support and guidance on internal matters and you will review and recommend changes to policies and procedures to comply with legislation and regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a Qualified Lawyer with 6+ years PQE, you will ideally understand a regulated industry, utilities sector would be preferable. You will have a thorough understanding of contract , commercial, data protection, and employment law coupled with compliance and risk frameworks in a commercial environment In person you be an effective communicator and influencer, you will have a strong commercial and strategic approach. Previous experience of working in a commercial legal function is essential in this role.
