The Team

The Financial Services Regulation Team is one of largest in the UK with a mix of lawyers and compliance professionals split over 3 national offices. The Team has a very strong reputation for regulated lending and banking and is ranked Tier 1 in Chambers and Partners for Consumer Finance. The Team also has a very strong Payments practice, considered to be one of the leading Payments practices in the UK.

In addition to its consumer finance and Payments practices, the Team has a strong and growing wider financial regulation practice. This practice covers other aspects of financial services regulation including non-retail banking activity, insurance, wealth and asset management, and funds and fund management. The broader practice is called 'Financial Markets'. In terms of topic areas Financial Markets covers client money, regulatory capital and prudential, mis-selling of insurance or other products, distribution chains, customer communications including contractual relationships, funds regulation and distribution, the regulatory aspects of M&A transactions and assisting clients dealing with regulatory interventions.

The team is down to earth and collegiate, but also highly ambitious and hardworking. Its approach to service delivery is highly commercial and innovative with an uncompromising approach to quality.


The Role

They are seeking an Associate (around 3 PQE) to join their high performing and busy team with excellent prospects for career development. They have a strong reputation for providing lawyers with early levels of responsibility within a supportive and stretching environment. Therefore anyone taking up this role can expect to have the opportunity to play a significant role in working for clients that are key to the Division and to the firm.

Whilst their various Financial Regulation practices work closely together, you will be working with Regulated Lending and Banking colleagues. You will be able to work independently on matters as well as provide oversight and support to more junior members in the team. The firm is looking for someone specifically with strong experience of regulated mortgages, as well as a broader range of retails financial services including consumer credit.

You will have

· Financial Regulation experience gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level
· Experience of technical legislation, regulatory requirements and expectations applicable to retail financial services firm, especially mortgage lenders,
