About Eversheds Sutherland:

Eversheds Sutherland is not your average law firm and we're not looking for average people. We do things differently - in the way we treat our people and the service we provide. That's how we've become one of the largest law firms in the world and a great place to work and develop your career.

The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic team, providing world class financial services to our business. You'll be someone who wants to be the best at what they do; who can handle pressure and enjoys making decisions that will have a real impact on the business. Our firm is all about teamwork and you would be a crucial part of that team - you'll find the work stimulating, the atmosphere dynamic and the results highly satisfying.

This is a critical Finance role within Eversheds Sutherland, the core purpose of which is to drive Finance regulatory policy, processes, governance and controls across all areas of the firm, with a particular focus on SRA client money compliance.

At a time of significant systems and technology development within the firm, this high profile role will drive the compliance change agenda with truly global exposure.

Key responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities will include:

• Establishing consistent Finance governance and controls frameworks across Eversheds Sutherland globally, and ensuring their effective implementation and operation.

• Ensuring the compliance of all Finance processes with the SRA Accounts Rules across all entities and jurisdictions globally, managing the escalation of complex queries and mitigation of breaches.

• Managing the external SRA Client Money Audit, acting as primary contact for the audit team during fieldwork and in relation to any queries or issues identified.

• Implementing a robust internal auditing program for SRA compliance, to include regular forensic review of BAU finance transactions

• Managing the breach review process across all Finance teams, regularly assessing any breaches identified and agreeing necessary actions across both Finance and the legal teams to prevent recurrence.

• Liaising with the Risk function to ensure alignment of policy and regulatory requirements across processes impacting both Finance and Risk, eg AML, sanctions and fraud.

• Becoming the “go-to” person for client money and Finance compliance queries within the firm

• Maintaining appropriate communications with partners, senior management and external bodies with regard to our client money and controls compliance.

Skills and experience:

We are looking for someone who:

• Is a professionally qualified Accountant with a broad range of experience

• Has a strong background in audit, risk or controls governance

• Has experience of operating within a regulated environment and dealing with client money is highly desirable

• Is used to working across complex entities, jurisdictions and systems

• Is comfortable working with fast paced changing environments

• Has experience of operating within a highly effective team and as a line manager

Key competencies:

We are seeking the following key attributes:

• Credibility and confidence in dealing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.

• Solution oriented

• Strong diplomacy, influencing and persuasion skills

• Pragmatic, robust and resourceful, with the ability to adapt quickly to different situations and personalities.

• Able to act on own initiative with a ‘can do’ approach.

• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage conflicting timescales and demands

• Organised and efficient with a ‘right first time’ approach to quality of work.

We’re a modern, progressive law firm. We think differently and we’ve built a culture where individual skills and personalities can shine through. At Eversheds Sutherland, we believe that innovation comes from having an inclusive culture of genuine equality and diversity and we’re happy to help with any reasonable adjustments you may require in the recruitment process, or once in post.

Eversheds Sutherland endeavours to recruit and fill vacancies directly. However, when we do need to engage with agencies, Eversheds Sutherland operates within a preferred supplier list.
