Role Summary

 

To consistently deliver a high standard of legal advice to clients in a commercially astute manner, delivering outstanding client service at all times. To assist with the marketing of the department’s services and undertake business development activities when required, to build on the firm and team’s reputation for excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Clients & Service

  • Assist senior fee earners with their complex files.
  • Manage a small caseload of multi track Asbestos Industrial Disease files, under supervision depending on experience, dealing effectively with cases.  
  • Deal directly with clients to take instructions and ensure full understanding in order to deliver on client expectations
  • Works closely with partners and senior lawyers to develop client relationship skills
  • Actively develop relationships with clients
  • Prepare effectively and progresses matters and negotiate the most appropriate solutions for the client.
  • Identify and follow relevant SRA/CILEX principles and rules of professional conduct
  • Comply with all internal procedures and protocols
  • Comply with all risk management policies and processes
  • Comply with firm file review processes
  • Respond appropriately to client complaints or concerns

Growing the business

  • Raise personal profile; take responsibility for aspects of BD projects within the department where directed
  • Take responsibility for aspects of business development projects in the department where directed
  • Research and draft articles and assist with the production of marketing materials
  • Begin to develop a network of contacts and potential referrers; attend relevant networking events
  • Spot opportunities to cross sell and build an internal network within the firm for cross referred work.
  • Continue to develop and learn in chosen areas of expertise, maintaining an up-to-date understanding of relevant law, policy and practice.

People and Culture

  • Build effective working relationships in the team
  • Participate in projects and support the team by being flexible and adaptable
  • Continue to learn and develop, seeking feedback to build on skills and behaviours.
  • Set and work towards personal development goals through Objective Manager

Financial and Operational Excellence

  • Manage time recording, debt control, WIP monitoring and billing consistently on own and others’ files and matters
  • Work toward personal and team KPIs, measuring performance against these
  • Ensure understanding of the department’s strategic goals and sets own personal activities/ objectives to align
  • Seek to understand the external legal sector and market
  • Put forward ideas for business improvements and innovation. Offer to assist in the implementation of changes and improvements

About You

Person Specification

 

Qualifications:

  • Senior Paralegal or a Solicitor/CILEx with up to 2 years PQE, with any litigation work to be carried out at the appropriate level set by the court.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience of litigation and good knowledge of civil procedure rules (CPR) and pre action protocols.
  • Ideally previous experience within a claimant Personal Injury/Industrial Disease area of law, although we are happy to consider strong litigators from other areas of expertise as well as defendant PI backgrounds.
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to effectively prioritise
  • Client service focused
  • Ability to undertake basic legal work under supervision
