The Freeths Group is one of the UK's leading regional law practices. We offer services to both the commercial and private client across the entire legal spectrum. We operate from offices in Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Leeds, Leicester, London, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Oxford, Sheffield, Stoke and Liverpool.

The firm has a wide range of clients throughout the UK with many clients having strong international connections. We have over 150 partners and more than 800 members of staff in total.

Our client base reflects our nationwide strength and our nationwide service delivery. We are committed to continuous improvement and our increasing success as a business is built on achieving success for our clients. We work in close partnership with clients, providing positive, practical solutions and clear, comprehensive advice.

Our aim is to attract and retain the most talented people, and part of this is providing a great place to work. So, to support fairness and equality and to encourage a healthy work-life balance, we continually monitor and improve our benefits.

We are proud that what we have achieved has been recognised over the past few years, being awarded Best Companies star status on a number of occasions and have featured in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For. We are also a silver standard accredited Investor in People Company, which means we are recognised for our efforts to improve work place engagement, leadership, personal growth, wellbeing, team working and our impact on society.

The successful candidate will need to sell services to, and undertake work for, property and corporate colleagues as follows:

* Advise on strategies for environmental risk management in a variety of transactions/circumstances

* Undertake legal due diligence and provide focussed reporting to the client on the environmental risks and propose effective mitigation of such risks

* Provide drafting on environmental issues in transactional documents including sale and purchase agreements, development agreements, share purchase agreements, leases etc. and undertake subsequent negotiations of these provisions

* Draft ancillary environmental documents for transactions e.g. reliance letters relating to environmental reports, site investigation licences

* Advise on appointment of environmental consultants and appropriate terms and conditions

* Advise on the use of environmental insurance and undertake negotiations with the insurer (via a broker) on bespoke environmental insurance policies

* Assist clients and Freeths teams on drafting of precedent document

You will also advise clients directly on a range of stand-alone environmental issues including for example the following, but if candidates have their own strengths in other areas then this will be of interest too:

* Asbestos

* Environmental permitting

* Waste and reuse of materials

* Contaminated land

You will need to undertake business development to generate an internal and external client base and you will also contribute to the Environment Team’s wider BD activities:

* Drafting and delivering environmental seminars and training as part of internal and external seminars

* Supporting other Freeths teams by providing “added value” in-house training seminars to existing clients of Freeths and target clients and contributing to other Freeths events

* Contributing to the Freeths environmental bulletin

* Assisting on the drafting of tenders

* Attending relevant sector events to raise profile and sell Freeths’ capabilities

Identifying opportunities for BD, both for the environment team and for Freeths more widely, and working with colleagues to deliver these

Whilst Sheffield is the ideal location, other locations will be considered such as Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham.
