Our client is a major national law firm with a highly ranked Employment practice. The Birmingham team acts for a wide range of clients in numerous sectors including retail, financial services, manufacturing, leisure and others. Client are diverse and often household name.


Our client is currently acting on one of the most high profile pieces of employment litigation of 2017 – a multi-claimant and multi-respondent claim which has received extensive media coverage.


The Employment team is experienced and driven and this hire is intended to provide valuable mid-level support to Partners in respect of client and business development as well as guidance and support to more junior solicitors.


This role will involve a mixture of non-contentious and contentious employment work and the successful candidate will be expected to want to excel in both areas. The candidate will have a wide and varied work load to include (amongst others) some or all of the following areas:


•Drafting employment contracts and policies;

•Day to day advice to clients on their employee relations issue including by telephone and email, as well as drafting and checking of related letters;

•Project work relating to restructuring and TUPE;

•Corporate support work regarding M&A and outsourcing;

•Enforcement of restrictive covenants and confidentiality clauses;

•Employment Tribunal case handling and advocacy;

•Negotiating and drafting of settlement agreements;

•Delivery of training and development of new business opportunities.


You are likely to have between 3 and 6 years post qualification experience with high quality employment experience gained in a leading national or regional practice, with strong technical skills and the ability to manage a large and varied caseload with appropriate supervision. Experience in supervising colleagues (formally or through informal guidance) is valued. The successful candidate will possess a genuine desire and proven ability to develop relationships with clients, a strong commercial mindset, and a passion for delivering excellence in everything they do.
