The Birmingham employment team forms part of the leading national Employment and People Services Team at our client, a strong national firm with offices across the country.

Highly ranked in both Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, the Birmingham team acts for a wide range of household name clients in numerous sectors including retail, financial services, manufacturing, leisure and others.


The team is currently acting on one of the most high profile pieces of employment litigation of 2017 – a multi-claimant and multi-respondent claim which has received extensive national media coverage.


The team is experienced and driven and, in Birmingham, comprises two Partners and two Assistants. This hire will form valuable mid-level support to the Partners (in respect of business development and client development) as well as guidance and support to the more junior lawyers.


The successful candidate will be joining a hardworking and supportive team and will have partner support on tap. The team has a clear desire to nurture and develop the candidate throughout their career. The candidate will be given responsibility from the outset, being exposed to high quality work and working alongside the Partners on a number of high profile cases and projects. They will be involved in the development of client relationships from an early stage and have supervisory responsibilities.


This role will involve a mixture of non-contentious and contentious employment work and the successful candidate will be expected to want to excel in both areas. The candidate will have a wide and varied work load to include (amongst others) some or all of the following areas:


  • Drafting employment contracts and policies;
  • Day to day advice to clients on their employee relations issue including by telephone and email, as well as drafting and checking of related letters;
  • Project work relating to restructuring and TUPE;
  • Corporate support work regarding M&A and outsourcing;
  • Enforcement of restrictive covenants and confidentiality clauses;
  • Employment Tribunal case handling and advocacy;
  • Negotiating and drafting of settlement agreements;
  • Delivery of training and development of new business opportunities.
