Job Title: Data Governance Officer

Location: Burford offices and home-based

Salary: £25,000 - £27,800

Job Type: 12 month fixed term contract, full time

Closing Date: 11th October 2017

Reporting to the Legal Services Manager, this one year fixed term role will provide support, expertise and advice to the organisation including individual teams in order to enable implementation of the company's GDPR project to ensure the organisation is fully compliant by May 2018 with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other associated and relevant legislation including PECR.

The post holder will help the Legal Services Manager manage and co-ordinate the organisation's approach to the implementation of the GDPR and ensure the organisation is compliant by working closely with the Legal Services Manager, IT and FMC to help meet the statutory requirements.

The post holder will work closely with members of the GDPR project team, all directorates, their departments, teams and individuals, who process, manage and use personal data within the company.

The standard hours are 35 hours per week over five days. Flexible working will be considered with the option of working from home.

Key accountabilities will include supporting the delivery of the organisation's strategic goals by:

  • Business plan implementation.
  • Monitoring and reporting on performance.

The organisation is looking for people with the following:

  • A levels/equivalent qualification or relevant professional experience, which demonstrates equivalent academic skills.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • At least one year's experience working in a data governance role or similar.
  • Working experience and understanding of DPA GDPR, PECR and their compliance requirements.
  • Report writing.
  • Knowledge of the relevant legal requirements relating to Data Protection, privacy and consent.
  • Demonstrable commitment to collaborative team work.
  • Ability to convert technical and legal content into plain English.
  • Understanding of systems and databases to have insightful conversations with data owners about data management and data sets.
  • Demonstrable commitment to inclusive working, ensuring equality and valuing diversity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and able to influence/persuade a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in a wide range of media and audiences.
  • Good organisational and workload management skills that enable the management of conflicting priorities and workloads.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to recognise areas of improvement and drive through change.
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular Microsoft office packages, Databases and Cloud based computing.

It would also be great if you had:

  • A relevant, recognised professional qualification in data protection or data security or both.
  • Working within a disbursed organisation to develop, draw up and implement new processes, procedures and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of auditing and monitoring of fundraising and third party compliance.
  • Project management and document management skills.
  • Development and roll out of processes, procedures and guidelines within an organisation.
