Overview

To support the London CSR Steering Committee ("the committee") in the delivery of its CSR agenda. In practical terms the role-holder will work closely with the Chair and members of the committee to develop an inspiring and creative agenda; to support committee members in delivery of the agenda; and to be hands on in ensuring individual projects and tasks are delivered to a high standard in furtherance of the reputation of the Firm. As well as managing external contacts professionally the role-holder must be sensitive to the many internal touch points of CSR including the networks, BD, Facilities, PR, Risk, Finance and others. There will be some liaison with colleagues in other offices (especially in the USA and Hong Kong) on specific ad hoc projects.

Responsibilities

Main

* To work closely with the Chair of the committee and partner sponsors of the Pro Bono, Charity of the Year and Community initiatives to drive the CSR agenda forward.
* Act as one of the key contacts internally and externally for CSR activity.
* As required, represent the Firm at internal and external CSR events.
* Act as Secretary/Minute-taker for the committee.
* Prepare budgets for and provide analysis of CSR activity and spend to the Chair of the committee/Director of Administration.
* Identify Firm CSR projects which might be eligible for market awards and draft submissions as appropriate
* Carry out ad-hoc projects and reporting as requested by London or Global management (subject to approval by the Director of Administration or committee Chair).
* Establish and supervise appropriate matter management protocols and training for the Firm's legal work on CSR, liaising as appropriate with Business Intake and Legal Risk Management

Charity of the Year

* Support the partner sponsor of the Charity of the Year Committee in developing and delivering on the charity agenda. Liaise with charities the Firm decides to support from time to time and deal with queries from other charities that contact the Firm with requests for funding support.
* Plan and manage the charity budget and working alongside the Accounts team as required.
* Generate ideas for and organise fundraising events to supplement the charitable budget.

Pro Bono

* Support the partner sponsor of the office's Pro Bono activity and assist with the co-ordination of existing Pro-Bono schemes and new referrals.
* Liaise on a regular basis with the Director of Pro Bono Activities (USA).

Community

* Build community initiatives as approved by the committee.
* Maintain and develop the Breaking Barriers programme including the internal placements.
* Build and deliver other occasional programmes as agreed by the committee.

Diversity

* Most of the Diversity and Inclusion agenda is run through the HR department. Liaison with HR colleagues is required to ensure the D&I initiatives are consistent with the over-arching CSR framework of the office.
* Liaison with the networks (BAME, Womens, LGBT+ etc) is required from time to time to ensure CSR activities take account of the views of the networks and share resourcing responsibilities as appropriate.

Environment

* Most of the environmental agenda is carried forward by the Facilities team. Attendance at periodic Environmental Committee meetings is required to ensure committee views are incorporated into that work.

Business Development, Marketing and Communication

* Work alongside the BD/PR team to publish our progress in the key CSR initiatives.
* Respond to requests for information on our CSR policy for pitch requests.
* Work alongside the BD and PR teams to put together CSR brochures as they arise from time to time.
* Update the website, intranet and SharePoint pages, working with the BD, Marketing and Communications team and the Information Centre.
* Work with the PR team (a) to provide input for internal communications to encourage individuals across the London office to get involved in pro bono, charitable and community projects (b) to support the PR/BD teams in devising and managing external communications using traditional and social media to promote the Firm's CSR initiatives.
* Write submissions for internal communications publications such as The Friday Round Up and 'The Business'.
* With CSR Steering Committee input, work with BD to ensure cross-fertilisation between CSR initiatives and BD/client marketing events and activities.

Qualifications

* Educated to degree level or equivalent.
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and confidence to communicate at all levels.
* A background in Contentious Law would be advantageous.
* At least 3 years previous experience in a CSR, Pro Bono or D&I role would be desirable.
* Committed to the agenda of the CSR Steering Committee.
* Excellent relationship-builder, able to develop a broad network of relationships internally and externally.
* Able to drive projects forward and willing to get involved at every level.
* Able to influence staff at all levels.
* Precision and attention to detail.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Ability to use initiative and provide pro-active support to the committee.
* Reliable and well organised.
* Flexible and adaptable approach to work – including willingness to attend occasional events which may be at lunchtime or in the evening.
* Assertive and self-motivated.
* Strong IT skills with advanced experience of Microsoft packages, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
