Our client is a national firm and they are looking to appoint a further Court of Protection Solicitor in the Leeds office, 2PQE+


  • Initial client meetings and taking instructions.
  • Most aspects of Court of Protection work including deputyship applications, on-going deputyship administration, and ancillary applications such as trustee orders, interim orders, making applications to the Court of Protection for deputyships for property and affairs for Professional Deputy Appointment and also Lay Deputy appointments.
  • Statutory wills and gift applications
  • Advising on and setting up personal injury trusts including those for minors.
  • Day to day management of our clients' financial matters, which includes liaising with case managers, investment advisers, accountants and other third parties.
  • Dealing with Local Authority and CCG in respect of funding issues.
  • Litigation support
  • To keep the client informed as required by the firm's and department's set up procedures.
  • To run the files allocated in accordance with the firm's and department's set procedures.
  • To attend client meetings.
  • To meet all cost/fee targets where set.
  • To keep abreast of changes in legal practice within the post holder's area of specialism, disseminating this information as appropriate, ensuring the Firm's legal advice reflects best practice and any new market opportunities are developed.
  • To meet on a regular basis with the person to whom the post holder reports to review cases and any other matters relevant to the post holder's position. To report to the post holder's supervisor immediately any difficulties being experienced, in particular, those which may lead to a negligence action being taken against the firm and/or a complaint from a client.
  • Performance appraisal: To comply with the firm's Performance Appraisal Policy and to meet all performance targets set and follow all recommendations and instructions made at appraisal interview and as set out in the appraisal interview form.
  • Training: To comply with the firm's Training Policy and to attend all training events, both internally and externally, as directed by the Training Partner, Training Manager, Head of Department, Department Education Manager and/or the person to whom the post holder reports, as appropriate.
  • To comply with all SRA rules and regulations presently in force and as added to or amended from time to time.
  • Practice development and cross-selling:
  • To take part in any practice development events, whether within or outside normal working hours, as directed.
  • The post holder is expected to take every reasonable opportunity to develop both the firm's and their own practice and to make suggestions and take action, after consultation with the person to whom they are responsible, by arranging meetings, seminars, etc.
  • The post holder is expected to be familiar with and to make all reasonable endeavours to recommend the firm's services, including those of other departments, to the firm's present clients and potential clients, to business contacts, acquaintances and friends.
  • Supervision of staff: To supervise, train and assist all staff for whom the post holder is directly responsible, in accordance with the firm's policies and the department's procedures and in consultation with the Head of Department and Department Supervisor, as appropriate.
  • Work outside normal office hours: To comply with all reasonable requests to work outside these hours.
  • Firm's policies and procedures: To comply with all the firm's policies and procedures and with all reasonable instructions and requests made by any partner and/or other senior member of the firm and, in particular, comply with the following:
  • ISO9001 requirements as set out in the relevant manual;
  • LSC specialist quality mark (where applicable);
  • Health and safety requirements.
  • To comply with all duties and obligations set out in the post holder's contract of employment and as may be amended (after consultation) by the partnership from time to time.
  • Carry out any other duties which may from time to time be required of the post holder by any partner or other senior member of the firm.
