Description

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Law Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer to develop their career in a leading and highly respected team, working with multiple national law firms.

Your caseload will include a broad and varied mix of civil and commercial costs recovery work, with the main focus being on costs management work. In addition, you will be required to undertake all work associated with bills of costs and points of dispute. You will be dealing with a substantial client base, including some high value work.

There will be a number of marketing responsibilities and also the potential to manage some client relationships going forward.

You will need to be professional and articulate and be capable of building and developing relationships both internally and externally. You must also be adept at engaging with other professionals. Excellent client management and communication skills are essential as is the ability to work at pace, whilst maintaining exceptional levels of client service.

You will be required to:

* Prepare costs budgets (Precedent H)

* Prepare budget discussion reports (Precedent R) and deal with costs management negotiations

* Prepare bills of costs for civil and commercial cases (knowledge and experience of the electronic format bill of costs is essential). You will be expected to prepare bills of costs arising from complex and high value litigation claims, many of which will be subject to costs management orders

* Prepare statements of costs for summary assessment or schedules of costs for negotiation

* Prepare points of dispute and replies

* Undertake negotiations

* Prepare requests for Provisional and Detailed Assessment

* Prepare applications for payments on accounts and interim costs certificates

* Prepare and issue Part 8 proceedings

* Request Default Costs Certificates where appropriate

* Provide clients with the required legal advice

Experience required

* 4 years’ minimum experience working with legal costs in a high volume, deadline driven environment

* Competent and comfortable using Costs Master and/or other costing systems

* Excellent business development and networking skills

* Excellent communication and organisation skills are essential

* Excellent in using Excel, Word and PowerPoint

* A sound understanding of the interplay between costs management and detailed assessment

* Experience working with the electronic bill of costs

This is a full time, permanent role with working hours of 9.00am – 5.00pm on Mondays to Fridays inclusive, with one hour for lunch.

Salary to be discussed and determined, as appropriate.
