Stone King is a highly regarded law firm with offices in Bath, London, Cambridge, Leeds and Birmingham. The Corporate and Commercial team is based primarily in our London Office with representation in our Bath and Cambridge offices.  The Team works closely with our Charity, Education, Employment, Dispute Resolution, Commercial Property and Information Management teams. 

 The role

The post is for a Solicitor to join the Corporate and Commercial Team, based in Bath but willing and able to travel to our other offices as and when required. You will be a key team member in helping to further develop this busy practice area.

The work will involve acting for companies (and their owners), charities and schools. This including:

  • General company law advice
  • Commercial agreements
  • Acquisitions and mergers
  • Restructurings
  • Capital raisings
  • Shareholders’ agreements
  • Joint ventures
  • Partnerships and LLPs
  • Intellectual property licences and related advice.
  • Internet and e-commerce advice (including in relation to social media).
  • Data Protection and Information Management
  • Banking and finance


You will need to possess an excellent academic history and have trained with a good commercial or in-house legal team.  Experience of drafting, file management and client relationship building is important and you should be able to show that you are able to work relatively independently on routine commercial matters.

 Due to the nature of the work and diverse client-base, the candidate will need to be able to demonstrate good communication and analytical skills and be able to adapt quickly to different clients and their needs and to the different and complex laws applicable across a range of matters so as to provide sound, commercial advice.

 Existing knowledge of information law is not required but you should be able to demonstrate an interest in this area and have the intellectual ability and determination necessary to develop the requisite knowledge quickly. Training and support will be given.

 Guidance and direction is available from more senior members of the Team. Training and support will be provided to assist your personal development. It is encouraged that employees take ownership and responsibility for work, at increasing levels of significance in order to progress their position over time within the Team and the Firm.


Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities are broadly but not limited to:


  • Effectively manage an individual caseload (with supervision where appropriate).
  • Attend to clients of the Firm in the office or elsewhere if needed.
  • Work in a collegiate and collaborative way within an immediate Team and wider Firm environment.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively both internally to colleagues and externally to clients.
  • Maintain your continuing professional development requirements and take an active interest in furthering your knowledge within the field of law.
  • To carry out your work for both colleagues and clients to the highest possible standard, having regard to the Firm’s standards, procedures and core values.
  • To regularly attend, and be involved in preparation for, Team meetings.
  • To attend and be involved in preparation for marketing and business development events and activities, and to make contributions to our marketing materials.

 The post-holder will report to the Head of the Corporate and Commercial Team.
