We are looking for an experienced residential conveyancing solicitor to join our reputable market leading Doncaster firm. The successful candidate will have at least three years' experience working in a similar role and will have strong team working skills.

The Ideal Candidate

Required Knowledge and Experience

Admitted solicitor, with current Practicing Certificate with 3 years PQE in the area of Residential Conveyancing. Must demonstrate an ability to work to the SRA's Skills Standards and to provide accurate, focused advice to clients. Familiarity with and confidence in the use of office IT applications; and good typing skills. Familiarity with Land Registry portal and how to obtain searches.

We expect the successful candidate to have good team working and collaborative skills with solicitors from other teams, other departments and support staff. We expect to see the client at the centre of the firm and for our lawyers to have a commercial approach in their work.

Duties will include:

You will assist with both commercial and residential conveyancing matters including new build properties. The work will involve dealing with caseloads of all pre and post completion property matters - obtaining various copy files, building regulation and planning consents from local authorities, liaising with the Land Registry, carrying out pre-exchange and pre-completion searches, drafting contracts, liaising with clients. It is essential you have a thorough understanding of property searches, conveyancing transaction forms, and updating reports on title and experience of dealing with volume work and client contact is vital. Audio typing is desired, but not essential as long as you are a fast learner. You will also be required to assist on the phones so a polite telephone manner is vital.

You will have sufficient experience to be able to work with minimal supervision, and as part of a team. You need to be able to prioritise the workload, and work under pressure, without your attention to detail being compromised.

To check all mortgage offers and ensure that all conditions have been complied with and ensure buildings insurance is CML compliant and in place for exchange.

Report to clients on mortgage offers and prepare completion statement and SDLT form in a timely fashion.

Ensure funds from lender will be received in time for completion and that any balance to complete from client is received in good time for completion.

Complete/carry out post completion check list. To ensure the preparation of financial documentation the completion statement of account and all finance paperwork is accurate and delivered in a timely fashion to the supervising Solicitor.

Role Responsibility

  • Demonstrates a good level of competence in property law and conveyancing transactions
  • Advises clients on matters
  • Takes client calls successfully and produces/records effective telephone notes
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the client's aims and objectives
  • Able to apply AML and anti-mortgage fraud policies
  • Manages cases in accordance with the CQS Protocol and Standards
  • Contributes to business and department development

Financial management

  • Achieves financial and hours targets as set by the Residential Conveyancing Department
  • Demonstrates an understanding/awareness of working capital and regular billing and refers matters as necessary in a timely fashion to the Head of Department
  • Brings matters to the attention of the senior Partner and/or clients at the appropriate time and updates fee estimates accordingly
  • Actively participates in / contributes to the scoping of work
  • Proactively and regularly seeks work from Head of Department
  • Complies with the SRA Accounts Rules
  • Deals promptly with any working capital exercises

Learning and development

  • Complies with CPD requirements and identifies specific training needs
  • Attends appropriate departmental training sessions
  • Attends appropriate internal courses (e.g. management and IT skills)
  • Provides informal and formal training as appropriate (e.g. induction, mentoring and internal team presentations) as skills develop
  • Complies with CQS mandatory training requirements
