The role

We are seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated lawyer (3-5 years PQE), to join our busy and highly regarded Construction & Infrastructure team based in our Exeter office. You will report directly to the Partners and play an integral part in a variety of matters, with a focus on non-contentious construction and infrastructure work. Typical workload would include construction & infrastructure related contract work across logistics, outsourcing, financing, joint ventures, operation/maintenance/service contracts and facilities management. Working with a wide range of international, national and regional matters for private and public sector clients on construction and infrastructure projects (across a variety of sectors), our work is typically focussed upon the retail, transport, waste, energy and renewables sectors. Our clients range from owner developers, start-ups and SMEs to funding institutions and large multinationals, and we are proud to work with prestigious clients which include household names and listed companies. In order to meet their needs, you can expect to work collaboratively with colleagues across the Construction & Infrastructure department, as well as other teams such as Commercial Property, Corporate, Commercial and Planning, in order to ensure that each client receives an exemplary service. We consider it essential to enable our Solicitors to gain experience and confidence in working directly with clients, which will enhance your development as a lawyer. Whilst we will provide training on any specialist areas which are new to you, we expect you will have gained some experience of construction related transactions and be enthusiastic to expand your skills and knowledge, within a supportive and experienced team. We pride ourselves on our ability to develop our people, and as such, you will be responsible for dealing with complex high quality, high value work and will be afforded high levels of responsibility from the outset.

If you'd like to know more about what it's really like to be part of Ashfords, why not hear directly from our own people? You can ask a question, or read what others have asked by visiting theMeet Our Peoplepage.

About You

An excellent communicator with proven technical and organisational skills and a cooperative team player, you will be accustomed to working under pressure to meet deadlines. You will already have a firm grounding in transactional non-contentious practice within a construction and/or infrastructure environment. With an eye for detail, you are meticulous and thorough in your work and are already accustomed to assisting in larger and more complex transactions in your current role, as well as advising clients directly on more routine matters. You will also have gained experience in most of the NEC, JCT and IChemE suite of contracts, as well as industry standard forms of professional appointments, and additionally, you may have gained some experience in matters involving third party funders.

Our relationship with our clients is paramount. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to build strong and lasting relationships with clients and show a genuine commitment to their business needs. Being self-motivated and ambitious, you will be keen to learn more about the construction and infrastructure sector and possess the drive to help us continue to grow and develop our business. In this dynamic market, clients will be looking to you to be up to date regarding the latest policy and legal developments affecting the sector and, as such, you will need to demonstrate a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the sector and its wider implications for our clients. In return, we will support your professional development through regular training and will help you to grow your professional networks and maximise business development opportunities through access to relevant events and conferences, enhancing your knowledge and credibility across the sector.

About Us

Working for Ashfords, you can expect to be provided with excellent training and development opportunities and encouragement to further your career in a stimulating, supportive and forward thinking Firm. We are ambitious - for ourselves and for our people - and want to support you to realise your full potential. You will also enjoy our range of flexible benefits which, dependent upon the level you will be joining us, may include:

* Pension
* Life Assurance
* Private Health Insurance
* Performance related bonus scheme
* 25 days' annual leave, all bank holidays plus your birthday off and an extra day at Christmas. Your holiday entitlement increases with length of service.
