Purpose of job
To work as an associate in Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner’s market-leading commercial construction team, providing clients with specialist, tailored advice on a wide range of projects and transactions.

The commercial construction team has a strong and well-established client base of its own and is not reliant on being solely a support team for other teams. That said, we work closely with teams from across BCLP. In addition to working with the wider real estate department, we regularly work with lawyers from our corporate, finance, litigation and tax teams.

Key responsibilities
You will:
• Draft and negotiate on a wide range of construction documents;

• Act as the main point of contact for a number of clients;

• Deliver high standards of work, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are kept informed;

• Delegate work as appropriate to junior members of the team;

• Contribute to group pitches and the publication of articles.

• Contribute to team training and know how.

• Draft and negotiate a number of contracts across various suites of standard forms, including JCT and NEC.

• Draft and negotiate bespoke consultant appointments.

• Advise in connection with agreements for lease.

• Advise in connection with the construction aspects of facility agreements.

• Advise in connection with the construction aspects of corporate SPAs.

• Advise clients in regulated environments i.e. Rail, healthcare

Key relationships
Partners and Associates in the Commercial Construction & Engineering team as well as the wider real estate team and the construction disputes team.

Experience and knowledge
A broad range of in-depth real estate non-contentious construction and engineering at a similar practice.

Skills and competencies
• You will have already gained significant experience within a leading Commercial Construction & Engineering team.
• You will have a good understanding of key real estate and construction and engineering concepts and an appreciation and awareness of the real estate market.
• You will be able to draft and negotiate contracts and also have a good working knowledge of the provisions of construction and engineering documents and broader real estate transaction documents such as agreements for lease development agreements, facility agreements.
• You will be able to demonstrate excellent client service skills and want to work as a team player in a collegiate environment. We are looking for someone who is relaxed and appropriately confident in front of clients, but knowledgeable enough to know when to seek additional support.
• You will be highly motivated and able to work independently where appropriate.
