About the Employment Lawyer Role

The team are looking for an experienced lawyer to assist in what will be a busy caseload of primarily Employment Litigation claims. The position is for a Grade 7 Lawyer. The ideal candidate should have strong post qualification experience in Employment Law included dealing with unfair dismissal cases to multi-party equal pay and pensions cases.

Key requirements of the Employment Lawyer:

  • Conduct Employment based proceedings in courts, appeals and tribunals;
  • Interview witnesses and recording witness statements;
  • Conduct settlement negotiations with opposing representatives;
  • Command the confidence of clients and other key partners and stakeholders as required. Liaising with key Stakeholders as required;
  • Provide specialist employment law advice in relation to individual HR cases, HR policy issues and potential employment-based proceedings as well as providing relevant training to clients as required;
  • Advice in matters relating to Employment Law;
  • Provide advice in matters relating to access to information and data protection where relevant to their employment advisory and litigation practice;
  • Contribute to their wider team and the department as a whole, contributing to training, development projects and other corporate activities as appropriate.

Skills Required for the Employment Lawyer:

  • Solid knowledge of Employment law and related concepts
  • Experience of having conduct of a busy litigation caseload, with considerable autonomy
  • Experience of using a strategic approach to case management
  • High standard of legal research across legal databases
  • Public sector/Central Government experience (ideal but not essential)
  • Good drafting and written ability
  • Excellent communication skills to deal with clients and other parties from a variety of backgrounds
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Meeting billing targets

Essential: Qualified Solicitor registered on the Law Society Roll with post-qualification experience.

Desirable: 3 years + PQE
