Business Analyst (PMO)


The opportunity

Reporting to the Business Analysis Manager, PMO and part of the London PMO team (comprised of project management, business analysis and PMO specialists), the Business Analyst will be responsible for investigating business systems and processes, identifying options for improving business systems and bridging the needs of the business with the use of IT.

Key responsibilities:
* Eliciting the business need and quantifying this into tangible goals and objectives
* Examine the business needs in terms of present and future IT requirements
* Create requirements documents and model the relationship between different requirements, business goals and project objectives
* Work with the Business Analysis Manager and other Business Analysts within the team to deliver work inception analysis as part of a defined process
* Work with Project Managers, Technical Delivery Managers and sponsors via Waterfall and Agile methodologies to scope projects and define success criteria
* Work with SME's and others to understand how far the available systems can meet the business needs
* Manage expectations and communicate with stakeholders within and outside of the PMO
* Provide analysis for the development and delivery of RFI / RFP and product / vendor selection activities
* Define and manage analysis tasks through to implementation ensuring that requirements are accurately captured and signed off by the business
* Contribute to the knowledge of the team, the department and the firm
* Create, maintain and develop relationships with business stakeholders in the legal and support communities
* Ability to drive small initiatives forward when required

Skills, experience and qualifications

* Experience and or knowledge of Agile development / delivery environments would be an advantage
* Good educational background to degree standard or equivalent
* Professional and widely recognised qualifications or accreditations which relate to change management, business analysis or project / programme management. Qualifications/accreditations in all three would be a distinct advantage
* Experience of working in a BA capacity
* Proven and demonstrable experience of capturing and improving business process as part of a range of projects or initiatives
* Excellent practical understanding of business analysis techniques, methods and tools
* Ability to understand and communicate business systems at a high, firm-wide solution level, and also at a detailed data object or process-step level
* Solid understanding of project management techniques
* Ability to analyse problems and present solutions to management or the business
* Solid commercial skills, including reviewing and validating proposals, making recommendations
* Good understanding of current and future technology trends, with experience of legal technology an advantage
* Ability to contribute to the continuous improvement of the business analysis offering delivered via the PMO
* Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese desirable but not essential

Our Corporate services group is comprised of a number of teams from the firm's central management functions, which support key activities both within the firm and in the external market. They coordinate common initiatives, improve communication and drive greater efficiency across our operations. These teams are Management Services, Pro bono and citizenship, Internal/external communications and the Business Services Programme Management Office (BSPMO).

Management services

This team is formed of a number of partners and consultants who provide leadership in developing our management and strategic direction, and in spearheading key strategic initiatives. Within this team, you’ll be supported by our strategy and planning team, which provides analysis to inform decision-making, develop business plans and project manage agreed initiatives and strategic reviews.

Pro bono and citizenship

Within this team, you’ll focus on:
• providing pro bono legal services to members of the public through legal and community centres, and sponsoring legal clinics in association with law faculties
• sustainable development, working with non-governmental organisations, supporting rule of law initiatives, and training on behalf of local bar associations in African and South East Asian countries
• building community through financial and in-kind support to community partners with a focus on those organisations that promote access to justice and opportunity; and
• reducing environmental impact, including targets for reducing energy and carbon, food waste, recycling and encouraging more environmentally friendly travel options

Internal/external communications

These teams are responsible globally for advising on and supporting our communications activities in all media, both internally and externally, and including the development of our communications strategy and new communications initiatives.

Business Services Programme Management Office (BSPMO)

The BSPMO manages an extensive portfolio of global firm-wide projects, including new systems and major transformation programmes. Services offered include programme/project management, change management and business analysis.
