Norton Rose Fulbright
Location: London
Job type: Permanent
Category: Associate Jobs
The Team

The Norton Rose Fulbright Global Dispute Resolution Group is one of the first choice practices for the complex, high-value international work of global corporations and financial institutions. We have particular expertise in financial services, insurance, energy and infrastructure, construction, and transport (which includes our market-leading shipping and aviation practices).

The globalisation of regulation, including the new reality of information sharing and co-operation in investigations and proceedings between international regulators requires businesses and their advisers to adopt a co-ordinated, global approach. Our team of Regulatory, Compliance and Investigations lawyers across the world provides a global service, inter-connected across jurisdictions, industry sectors and regulatory fronts, including in the areas of international trade and sanctions, anti-corruption and anti-money laundering. The Regulatory, Compliance and Investigations practice at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, which forms part of our Dispute Resolution and Litigation Group, is a well-established successful team in this area and continues to develop its capabilities and expand the team to capitalise on opportunities within and outside the group.

The Role

You will be a member of the Global Dispute Resolution and Litigation group based in London, with access to a broad spectrum of work. The role will involve working closely with experienced partners to help develop further the successful and expanding Regulatory, Compliance and Investigations practice. The role will require advising clients on a broad range of issues with particular focus on regulatory compliance, investigations and enforcement arising out of economic sanctions, export and trade controls, bribery and corruption and money laundering.

You will work with highly regarded specialists advising multinational clients across a range of sectors. You will advise clients on specific transactions, compliance programmes, licence applications, reporting to regulators and management of regulator relationships, investigate potential violations and defend companies and individuals in enforcement proceedings. You will also work with other members of the Norton Rose Fulbright Group, including providing comprehensive expertise on economic sanctions and related areas to our Banking and Corporate teams on transactional matters.

Skills and Experience Required

* You will be an experienced mid to senior level associate with a strong background in international trade and sanctions, anti-corruption and anti-money laundering.

* You will have experience of the various regulatory bodies (including OFSI, OFAC, NCA and SFO) and their procedures relating to company operations in relevant areas of business in the UK and abroad.

* You will have a comprehensive understanding of UN, EU, UK and U.S. sanctions regimes and their implications for companies and individuals.

* You will also have a comprehensive understanding of relevant anti-corruption and anti-money laundering laws and their application in practice, including the UKBA, POCA and FCPA.

* It is important to be able to show a proven ability to assimilate sizable quantities of information and to be able to identify the potential legal risks and regulatory obligations of individuals and companies in a broad range of situations in which these issues arise.

* You will be able to show how sanctions regulations, export controls, financial crime (including under the UKBA, POCA or FCPA) and regulatory liability operates together and analyse the risks for clients.

* An excellent academic background is also a prerequisite.

At Norton Rose Fulbright we welcome receiving direct candidate applications via our careers page.
