About Eversheds Sutherland:
Eversheds Sutherland has one of the largest national planning teams in the UK. The planning team in Nottingham operates together with planning colleagues in Birmingham as part of a pan-Midlands team and has an exciting and varied workload – it is involved in some of the largest national infrastructure projects and residential-led urban regeneration projects, predominantly acting for private clients - including large national clients such as Taylor Wimpey, Barratt and David Wilson Homes, Roxhill/SEGRO. We also act for a range of local authorities.
The Midlands planning team provides advice on and acts in the following specialist areas:
• nationally significant infrastructure projects promoted under the Planning Act 2008
• urban regeneration projects
• planning appeals
• strategy and conduct of judicial reviews at High Court and Appeal Court proceedings
• negotiation of planning and highways agreements
• planning due diligence on corporate and real estate acquisitions and disposals, working closely with corporate and real estate colleagues
• compulsory purchase and compensation
• planning enforcement
• parliamentary advice including hybrid bills, Transport and Works Act orders and harbour orders
• town and village greens
• listed building and conservation area issues
• highway issues
The work is extremely varied ranging from quick advice on straightforward planning issues to negotiation of complex development agreements, attending planning inquiries and assisting on huge corporate projects both in the Midlands and nationally.
We have an opportunity for 0-2 Year PQE Associate to join the Nottingham Planning team. This vacancy offers an excellent opportunity to get involved within a specialised and exciting area of practice.
You will be based in our Nottingham office and will participate in the full range of work undertaken by the Midlands Planning Teams. You may be expected to travel to other offices. You will assist other members of the national planning team in acting on a wide range of matters.
You will form an integral part of an energetic team of specialists working within a challenging and rewarding area of law. Whilst a supportive and structured approach will be given to supervision, knowledge management and personal development, we expect all our team members to possess a 'can do' approach to their workload.
You will take on a client facing role from the outset, both in assisting others on large complex cases and in running your own caseload.
Skills and experience:
You will possess strong academic ability and excellent communication skills. You will be able to problem solve and work under pressure. You will have superb organisational skills and pay high attention to detail. You will provide a first rate client service both internally and externally.
You should be a team player, client focused and a good communicator with a strong practical approach to your workload. A commitment to deliver quality service is essential, as is the ability to juggle the demands of a heavy workload.
We're a modern, progressive law firm. We think differently and we've built a culture where individual skills and personalities can shine through. At Eversheds Sutherland, we believe that innovation comes from a culture of genuine equality and diversity and we are happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments individuals may require in the recruitment process, or once in post.
Eversheds Sutherland endeavours to recruit and fill vacancies directly. However, when we do need to engage with agencies, Eversheds Sutherland operates within a preferred supplier list.
