The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our national banking and finance team advises clients on a range of financing transactions across a wide variety of sectors, often with a multi-jurisdictional element. Acting for borrowers, lenders and investors means we have a practical understanding of the needs of all parties to a financing transaction. Our expertise extends to corporate lending, leverage finance, asset finance, real estate finance (both investment and development), project finance and invoice discounting. Transaction types vary from SME lending up to governmental lending and all things between. We work closely with some of the UK's major banks and financial institutions and have wide panel status with many of them.

Our excellent national team is going from strength to strength, having welcomed four new partners in the last twelve months. Our Midlands team has four Partners who advise clients on all areas of banking transactions including real estate finance, project finance, acquisition and leveraged finance, restructuring, refinancing and asset-based lending.

The role

We have a fantastic opportunity for an associate to join our growing Midlands team. You will be able to work closely with the local partners and associates as well as the wider national team on their matters and will be heavily involved in some high value transactions.

The successful candidate will have spent at least one seat of their training contract and the early part of their career in a banking and finance discipline. You will have experience liaising with borrowers, lenders and investors on the full transaction lifecycle and be confident reviewing and managing conditions precedent processes, drafting and negotiating security documents, drafting facility agreements (both LMA and non-LMA form), negotiating intercreditor arrangements and any other matters relating to live lending transactions. The team manages a large number of transactions at any one time and with a swift turnover of matters an eye for detail and confidence in dealing with client and solicitors alike are absolute requirements.

We are looking for someone with strong general banking experience, who is looking to take the next step in their career and join our market-leading team.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
