The firm

A leading UK law firm with a network of offices from the South Coast to Scotland, working together as one national team. An innovative practice and the first top 100 law firm to achieve “Gold Standard” Investors in People, our values and culture are not just words on our website but are the heartbeat of the firm. The lack of barriers between departments, a real lack of hierarchy, zero tolerance for arrogance and pomposity makes Shoosmiths a fantastic place to work.

The team

Our award winning national Corporate team, which has been ranked in the top five firms for deal volume for the past four years by Experian MarketIQ's M&A Review, is led by a team of partners widely regarded as leaders in their field who are regularly recommended by clients for their reputation, personalities and outstanding expertise.

We advise companies, management teams, investors and debt providers through the business life cycle, from start-up and first round finance through M&A, management transactions, venture and development funding, restructuring, capital reductions, private equity funding and exits.

Our Nottingham team is one of the most highly regarded in the city and is led by Crispin Bridges Webb. We act for a variety of local, national and international clients, assisting and advising them on all aspects of the business life cycle. We have a particular specialism in corporate finance with an emphasis on public and private mergers and acquisitions as well as divestments, equity capital markets and private equity transactions. Clients range from young fast growth companies to large multinational corporations, wherever they are based.

The role

Our national team has grown over the last 12 months and is continuing to do so, therefore we are looking for a driven and ambitious Associate to join the team and assist in driving our success. Our team has a clear growth strategy, which means that for the right candidate there is the opportunity for real career progression.

In this role you will be able to take ownership of smaller transactions, as well as have the opportunity to assist the Partners on larger, more complex matters. The core focus of the work will be M&A (both with a domestic and cross-border element) and private equity and equity capital market transactions.

The ideal candidate will have spent the first part of their career in a busy, dedicated Corporate team assisting on transactions and be confident interacting directly with clients.

We pride ourselves in providing the best client experience, you will therefore have the opportunity, and be encouraged to take part in a variety of client and BD activities from the outset.

Equal opportunities

Shoosmiths is a committed Equal Opportunities employer promoting equality of opportunity. This means that everyone who either applies to or works for the firm is treated equally, whatever their gender, age, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, disability, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
