The department

The highly regarded Dispute Resolution team is ranked as Tier 1 in Chambers 2018 and Legal 500 2017 specialising in the resolution of complex disputes. Sitting within the wider Dispute Resolution team is the Administrative and Public Law Team led by Sara Sayer.

Purpose of job

The position will involve work under supervision on a broad range of matters and running files involving but not limited to the above legal areas.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic market leading team dealing with high quality work. We are looking for a Solicitor to cover a broad range of work across the Administrative and Public Law team providing assistance to the entire team and contributing more widely to the team and its growth. To also assist the Commercial Litigation team, predominantly in Cambridge, but to include firmwide, on general commercial litigation with some insolvency.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

* Running and managing files and delegating to trainees and paralegals as appropriate.

* High Court Litigation as well as mediation. Advocacy, where appropriate.

* Supporting the Team Head and Litigation Partners and team on larger and more complex matters.

* Interacting directly with clients and managing their expectations.

* Business Development

Accountabilities

Advice / Claims involving Interactions between Corporates / Individuals / Groups and the State / Public Bodies.

Areas that we advise upon and litigate in are:

1. Judicial Review/Disputes

Advising in Planning Matters

* Acting for Developers and Local Authorities

* Litigation support to planning team

Commercial

* Acting for clients challenging HMRC Policies and Procedures

* Advising on Disputes with Rural Payment Agency

2. Procurement

* Acting for Private Providers, Groups, Individuals against Public bodies

* Advising Local Authorities on challenges to its procurements.

3. State Aid Advice and General Public Law

* Advising on State Aid applications and permissibility issues

* Advice on Cemetery Regulations

* Advice on Byelaws at an Airport

* Advice on FOIA claims

* Parish Council Disputes

4. Charities Disputes/Regulatory

* General Disputes

* Procurement Disputes

* Merger Disputes

* Care Home Disputes – Fee Disputes, CQC issues

* Medical Partnership Disputes

* Serious Incident Reports

* Charity Commission Investigation

6. Education Disputes

* Acting for FE, HE, State Schools and Independent Schools

* Advising on Exam Board disputes

* Advising on matters including the handling of rape and sexual misconduct allegations Associated Investigation and Disciplinary procedures

* Advising on Safeguarding Issues and dealing with Student Mental Health Issues

* Advising Parents, Schools and FE on parental complaints and dealing with Social Services and the Police and their investigations. Issuing litigation

* Advising on complaints to the Office of Independent Adjudicator

* Advice to independent schools on handling peer on peer sexual offences and associated advice re Police and Safeguarding issues

* Advice on Policies

Data Security

* Ensure you are aware of and comply with all information security policies of the organisation relevant to your business role;

* Report any actual or potential security breaches; and

* Contribute to risk assessment where required.

* All employees have the authority to act to prevent an information security incident from occurring or escalating, where possible.

Qualifications/Experience

* An Associate of 3-5 years PQE + gained within a strong regional or City firm.

* Strong academic background.

* A high attention to detail to produce work/ documentation which is consistently of a high standard.

* Experience of High Court Litigation, commercial litigation and any of the above legal areas

* To have a flexible approach to work to ensure client deadlines are always met and clients are communicated with on a consistent and regular basis.

* Interest in and aptitude for business development.
