Assistant Team Leader - Corporate & Commercial - Transaction Services Team - Leeds

Join our well-established, high performing and busy Transaction Services Team (TST) as an Assistant Team Leader to help us deliver a world class service to our clients. Our team focuses on tasks that are found in a wide variety of legal assignments but which do not necessarily need to be done by qualified lawyers, such as document review, due diligence and e-disclosure, as well as process elements of transactional, advisory, commercial real estate and litigation work.

We are supported by the use of technology and play a key role in enabling Addleshaw Goddard to respond to client demand for more innovative and better value services. Launched in 2010, we are now one of our biggest divisions with over 170 employees, made up of apprentices, paralegals, managers and solicitors. We were the first team of its kind in the UK, and continue to innovate by delivering work in the most efficient way, saving our clients time and money. The Role

The Assistant Team Leader provides comprehensive operational support to activity in the TST, working closely with the Team Leader and Divisional Lead in our Corporate and Commercial (C&C) subteam to help manage the continued development and performance of Paralegals and Apprentices.

The Assistant Team Leader will also carry out some fee earning work. The Assistant Team Leader will have a focus on the C&C subteam, but will also have some wider responsibilities within the TST. This role is based in Leeds, with occasional travel to the other UK offices, as required.


The following list of duties is not exhaustive but gives a flavour of the duties the Assistant Team Leader undertakes:

Fee Earning

  • Carrying out the more technical tasks undertaken by the C&C subteam
  • Managing the larger, more complex projects the team is instructed to complete

Work Allocation

  • Taking instructions from internal clients, ensuring requirements are understood and allocating appropriate resource within the C&C subteam
  • Ensuring that work is delivered effectively and efficiently
  • Implementing and carrying out quality assurance checks on tasks undertaken by the subteam

Line Management

  • Line managing an identified team of Paralegals and Apprentices from the Leeds C&C subteam.
  • Providing coaching and regular feedback, and carrying out performance reviews to develop, encourage and motivate those individuals

Team Growth

  • Working with Lawyers, Paralegals and Apprentices to identify work for the subteam
  • Proactively promoting new business opportunities to internal and external clients
  • Contributing to the development of the subteam and the wider TST

Supporting the Team Leader and Divisional Lead

  • Assisting in the recruitment process
  • Supporting with running team updates
  • Delivering ad hoc training
  • Deputising for the Team Leader

What we are looking for

  • Experience of corporate and commercial legal work is desirable but not essential
  • Supervisory experience and experience of defining work processes and "best practice" approaches is also desirable but not essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A clear ability to manage complex and changing work-loads flexibly and efficiently
  • A strong team orientation
  • An ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines whilst maintaining a high attention to detail at all times
