Our General Counsel Team

The global General Counsel (GC) team acts as the Firm’s in-house legal counsel. Three of the major strands of their work are firstly, developing and implementing Firm policies and delivering the subsequent policy training to employees and Partners. Secondly, managing firm risk including handling professional negligence claims, dispute resolution advice and implementing and advising on the firm’s insurance policies. Thirdly, compliance, conflicts AML and ethical rules associated with taking on new business matters and clients.

Position Summary

The Assistant General Counsel will work closely with the GC team and the partners of the firm to assist in the management of firm risk, including handling professional negligence claims, regulatory investigations and assisting with the firm's insurance policies.

Duties and Accountabilities

*

Assist the General Counsel (GC) office and New Business Intake (NBI) conflicts teams with issues regarding new transactions and matters as they arise.

*

Support the GC team with profesional negiligence, dispute resolution and insurance matters.

*

Working with the office of the GC, this role has responsibility for the articulation, development and training of new policies.

*

Perform other duties necessary and essential to support the Firm's strategic goals.

Capabilities

*

Transactional experience as a litigator is essential.

*

Knowledge of the SRA regime and experience of regulatory management is also essential.

*

Consultancy and diplomacy skills, excellent communication and presentation skills as well as the ability to translate and explain complex conflicts matters to others, brokering discussions between Partners where necessary.

*

An understanding of conflicts and/or AML rules in England and Wales and/or New York state is helpful but not essential

*

Experience of developing and delivering training on compliance and risk management issues.

*

Project management skills to successfully complete multiple projects in a matrixed environment.

*

A sound track record of professional experience and achievement in a major international law firm, legal department or legal regulatory company.

*

Demonstrable expertise in standard business software applications such as Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.

Education and Qualifications

*

Educated to degree level, or equivalent, and;

*

A qualified lawyer with a practicing certificate admitted in either England and Wales or New York state, and;

*

Experience of policy-making and training of the policies and/or experience in a regulatory role such as MLRO or COLP (in the UK) or similar in the US.

Location and Reporting

*

This role is based in our London office, reporting to the General Counsel global Chief.
