This formidable Tax and Trusts department is one of the largest in the country demonstrating a national and international profile to rival the best. Lawyers advise on a wide range of areas, including tax and estate planning, offshore tax planning and corporate tax. Ranked in the 'top-tier' category by both The Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession and The Legal 500 (2007), the team not only offers "London quality in Bristol" but has been seen to surpass quality in the capital altogether.

The international strand of its expertise "has a richness most others cannot match" and encompasses high net worth individuals in Europe, the USA, the Middle East, the Far East and Latin America. The group's "good reputation" is complemented by its multilingual ability and worldwide network of contacts, giving Burges Salmon a strong national and international capability.

The team attracts an increasingly broad range of clients including businessmen, entrepreneurs, professionals, landowners, farmers, foreign nationals, private banks and trust companies. Their established reputation for the high quality of our trust practice has led to continued growth in their services to City financial institutions and to high-net-worth individuals. On the domestic front, the team continues to attract work from clients with landed estates with high expectations of a practice now regarded as competing on level terms with the leading London based Tax & Trusts departments.

As well as providing a full range of services in Tax and Estate Planning, the department also has a specialist unit focusing on International Tax & Trusts which is where the vacancy has arisen.

Working alongside a number of leading practitioners, the successful candidate can expect to work for financial institutions and trust companies in many jurisdictions and advise high net worth individuals from around the world. They advise UK clients with overseas interests, and overseas clients moving to or with interests in the UK. They advise on structures for the protection of worldwide assets and provide associated tax planning for UK assets. They deal all kinds of trust matters, including the creation, variation and termination of all types of trusts, and on issues confronting trustees and beneficiaries.

The successful candidate will have a good academic record coupled with evidence of good quality training and at least 3 years relevant experience gained within a firm well regarded for Private Client work.
