Personal Injury Solicitor/Manager Leeds

Our client is looking to recruit a Senior Defendant Personal Injury solicitor. Their clients are a mix of leading names in the insurance industry as well as household name corporates. The client base ranges from blue-chip companies, leading financial firms to health authorities. The group deal with all aspects of defendant litigation, road traffic and employers liability, public liability, health and safety, product liability and criminal prosecutions arising out of the above.

You will act as a point of contact for designated clients, therefore it is crucial that you build relationships with client contacts at all levels (from in-house legal teams to production departments, human resources teams, line managers etc). You will also be required to provide a high level of technical and commercial expertise at all times therefore developing and maintaining successful relationships with new and existing clients is essential.

Day to day responsibilities range from obtaining and drafting pleadings, witness statements and letters of response, conducting face to face negotiations/mediation of claims, preparation of detailed schedules of damage and counter schedules in high value claims. Additionally advising/ representing clients at inquests and all associated matters.

You will also be reporting to clients and maintaining management information databases on your case load and prepare billing information accordingly. You will assist and in the preparation and/or delivery of client seminars, tenders and business pitches. The role will also involve participating in marketing and client training events, occasionally drafting articles for internal and external publication. You will need to manage risk through assuring quality of work and contributing to best practice within the team.

It is important that you progress client matters with minimal routine supervision, whilst maintaining an awareness of the appropriate limits of competence/authority. You will demonstrate a high level of commercial awareness in dealing with client matters and therefore adopt the client's commercial prospect rather than an excessively legal approach. The role also involves assisting in the management of the liability team and providing supervision to junior members within the team.

You will have several years post qualification experience within a defendant PI role with knowledge of both multitrack and fasttrack claims. In order to succeed within this role you will demonstrate a high level of commercial awareness and therefore adopt the client's prospect rather than an excessively legal approach thus understanding clients' business needs.

Previous Managerial/ supervisory experience is desirable.

You will have the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure, dealing confidently with changing and conflicting priorities. A flexible approach is important with an ability to adapt to rapid change, both internally and in the context of clients' businesses. You will be able to work on your own initiative without close supervision, as well as being team player with a collegiate approach to knowledge sharing and problem solving. You will be a confident communicator and negotiator.
